Excellent storytelling set in a time when suspecting your neighbors of being aligned with the communist party was headline news and the beginning of hometown girls being picked for local, traveling women's baseball teams. Historically accurate and engaging, the author shares true-to-life stories of hope in a time of deep mistrust sown into the soil of small-town America. And the richness of close family ties that bind us to our future as much as our past. Beautifully done. Highly recommend.
