Unabridged Audiobook
Altered was an unusual choice for me. I normally don’t like young adult paranormal, but this one was pretty good. The story was unique, which is something I love in a paranormal. Although, I think I’d classify this book as sci-fi, not paranormal. The boys in the story are more than human, but it is because of scientific alterations not anything mythical. I think this novel would’ve been better for me if we’d have seen more of their abilities. After finishing this book, I still can’t tell you what their abilities are. There wasn’t a real demonstration, other than a few fighting scenes, but it was still nothing spectacular. What I did really like was the author’s ability to lay the groundwork for a good mystery. I thought she did this perfectly. Jennifer Rush doesn’t overload us with information at the beginning of this story. There is no long, drawn out prologue to explain what’s going on. She just plops us into the middle of the story and gives the reader enough information to figure it out for themselves. There were also a few twists I absolutely didn’t see coming. There wasn’t a single minute of this story where I was bored. Instead, I turned the pages eagerly, greedy for more. I will definitely read the next book when it’s released, and I’m glad I read this story. It was different for me, but I enjoyed it. I’d like to add something for those readers who are like me and avoid any book with sci-fi labeled on it. It doesn’t feel sci-fi—if that makes any sense. Normally, I hate anything too science fictiony, but this book was good. There is enough mystery and a hint of romance, just enough to balance everything out.
An excellent novel that is well written. It keeps you on your toes wanting more!
Captivating book, interesting plot which doesn't stop to surprise, I enjoyed the story and the way it unfolded. The narrating was a little robotic, not so much as ruin the book for me but at times it felt very mechanical.
