A Time Best YA Book of All Time (2021)

Dive into the award-winning, internationally renowned book that is a “tender, honest exploration of identity” (Publishers Weekly) and distills lyrical truths about family and friendship—featuring images from the film!

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

The first time I read this book I didn't know what to expect. I already read the other book by Benjamin Alire Seanz and from the moment I read it I fell in love with the amazing style and the well-written characters. I love how this book is so relateble for a lot of people, and for me, because I never really knew who the real me was. This book let me realize that it's not wrong to be confused ore to be scared from who you are. All my friends seemed so sure about there sexuality and there choices, while I was stumbling in a dark cave, looking for an exit. This book showed me that it's okay to be in that cave, and that when you are finally finding your way out you'll be stronger, and you'll be a little confused first, but it will be alright. It let me realise that whatever happens, you don't need to give up. Even when there are days you want to cry and yell, the sun will come back and there are people for you who fight with you, because you are not alone. I love this book with my whole heart, and I think you now why. (I'm sorry if my English is not that good ore of I made mistakes because English is not my first language?)

LOVED this book. Hearing Lin-Manuel Miranda speak the words brought the book more to life. Although I guessed at some of the outcome, it was still wonderful to hear it unfold. As soon as my son gets a little older, I will have him read this. This is a great coming-of-age book for young boys. Especially those boys who are lost from their own cultures and to who they are inside.

I do not honestly know why it took me so long to read it. Ari and Dante are two characters you can’t help but fall in love. I couldn’t put it down and now wish I was still reading it. This book lives up to every worthy award…beautiful. And please, beg Lin-Manuel Miranda to narrate more books.

Please just hear me out here. I don't know where all of these high reviews are coming from. I read this book for a project and was really looking forward to reading this book because of all the great reviews. This book is very boring and has such a "poor pitiful me, woe is me, sky is falling" attitude. I can imagine that all of the good reviews are probably from English teachers. Seriously, don't waste your time. I can't count how many times I roled my eyes while reading this book because things being overly dramatic. On top of this, the author tried way too hard to insert profanity, and it's pitiful because I can tell they don't know how cuss properly without sounding cheesy. Again, eyes rolled constantly. Also, the entire time I read this book I said the phrase, "oh, please" constantly. I just can't emphasize enough the cheese factor of this book.

I feel like I've been punched in the gut in the best way.

Really sweet, poignant story with fun narration and likeable characters. My only complaint is that the last section felt a little rushed and contrived at times. Lin-Manuel Miranda's reading is calming and hypnotic. Perfect book for listening to on the go, since the chapters are very short.
