Summary
NATIONAL BESTSELLER • The astonishing and hugely entertaining story that completely changed the way we run. An epic adventure that began with one simple question: Why does my foot hurt?

“Equal parts quest, physiology treatise, and running history.... The climactic race reads like a sprint.... It simply makes you want to run.” —Outside Magazine

Isolated by Mexico's deadly Copper Canyons, the blissful Tarahumara Indians have honed the ability to run hundreds of miles without rest or injury. In a riveting narrative, award-winning journalist and often-injured runner Christopher McDougall sets out to discover their secrets. In the process, he takes his readers from science labs at Harvard to the sun-baked valleys and freezing peaks across North America, where ever-growing numbers of ultra-runners are pushing their bodies to the limit, and, finally, to a climactic race in the Copper Canyons that pits America’s best ultra-runners against the tribe. McDougall’s incredible story will not only engage your mind but inspire your body when you realize that you, indeed all of us, were born to run.

This book is brilliantly made, and it has changed my life because I used to have major problems with my feet but opted to try walking with thin shoes and have never had a problems since.

I thought it was a fantastic account. I only wish there was more conversations about the locals connection to the land. The deeper and more spiritual connection to both land and running.

I’ll always remember the quote “we don’t stop running because we get old; we get old because we stop running.”

I absolutely loved this book! And Fred Sanders made the book so enjoyable to listening while I work. I’m 72, Still cleaning homes every day all day long. I have wanted to start running again. It has inspired me to get back outside and start running again. Looking forward to seeing how much I can still achieve.

Love this book. It has definitely made me run more now. I love how they have a great story with a scientific as well as a fact based approach. Very well narrated and written and you just fell in love with the characters. Cannot wait for the movie to be made.

An eye opening look into our history and some very compelling evidence proving why we are made to run. I love how this book brings us back to reality by reminding us what our parents and grandparents told us. Don't always believe what you read or see on TV, and if it isn't broke, don't fix it.

Be sure to get the unabridged version. You'll want to hear this entire story, then go out for a run. Excellent descriptive writing. It's like you're watching this book unfold from the crowd (or the race). I also liked the scientific angle to this book, explaining in a sense how humans were all runners.
