Summary
Set adrift on the tides of fate by the deaths of her parents and left wanting answers, Laura Callaway now lives with her uncle and his disapproving wife in North Cornwall. There she feels like a castaway, always viewed as an outsider even as she yearns to belong.
While wreckers search for valuables along the windswept Cornwall coast—known for its many shipwrecks but few survivors—Laura searches for clues to the lives lost so she can write letters to next of kin and return keepsakes to rightful owners.
When a man is washed ashore after a wreck, Laura acts quickly to protect him from a local smuggler determined to destroy him.
As Laura and a neighbor care for the survivor, they discover he has curious wounds and, although he speaks in careful, educated English, his accent seems odd. Other clues wash ashore, and Laura soon realizes he is not who he seems to be. Despite the evidence against him, the mysterious
man might provide her only chance to discover the truth about her parents' fate. With danger pursuing them from every side, and an unexpected attraction growing between them, will Laura ever find the answers she seeks?
'Danger abounds on the wild Cornwall coast and so does romance. With a perfect blend of intrigue and tender moments, A Castaway in Cornwall is my favorite Klassen title to date.'—Michelle Griep, Christy Award–winning author of Once Upon a Dickens Christmas

I really enjoyed the narrator. She does a great job. Story was good, not too predictable. Loved the characters. I needed a light read and this grabbed me and kept me wanting to find out what was next. I recommend it.

Being a Cornish lad (from Penzance) I delved into this magnificent portrayal of Cornish life, of 200 years ago with gusto. I was not disappointed. From beginning to end, I was completely enthralled. The detail to historical and geographical accuracy was amazing. The storyline carried me on, eagerly needed the next chapter of this enthralling story.

I liked the book but wish there was more relationship development between the two protagonists. Narration was okay. I’ve been listening to Julie Klassen’s books with the same narrator and she’s great at female voices but when she does the men, they end up sounding like old men even though they’re supposed to be young.

I liked this story as it mixed some nautical history, cultural obscurity, and an interesting plot. I would recommend reading in book form yourself, though. The narrator was pretty bad. She was horrible at male voices and had a weird high pitched lilting female voice that became irritating quickly.

It was a fine story. I little vanilla. Could have used more sex and less praying but you know...it was a good distracter while I worked or did housework. The narrator was great with her multiple accents and voices.

Story is fun and unique. Good historical references and decent writing, if not a little slow.

This story was a good story rich in history, which I liked. I liked how the story went from Cornwall to Jersey so that I got the sense of movement through time with the movement of setting. My only issue with the story were some of the motivations of the characters seeming unrealistic which because the author was so persistent in pointing such motivations out so vividly, I could not overlook. The narrator was just okay. For me, her voice was too deep and slow when narrating, however, for some of the characters that she portrayed, she was able to give a lilt and a quicker pace to her voice which I liked better. That said, she told the story well and gave distinct voice from one character to another well enough.

First off I loved the narration. She captured the individual voices well and drew me in the the whole story. It's a story about different aspects of love as well as forgiveness. I found it's simplicity satisfying from beginning to end.

I enjoyed the story very much but I found the narrator's pace too slow a lot of the time and weak on male voices. Otherwise on the female voices, very pleasant.

It wasn’t what i thought it would be and didn’t keep my interest enough to continue. Maybe it better as it went on.

I persevered to the end. It wasn’t my cup of tea. The narrator was u favorable to my ear, mostly the male voices were too similar, slow, and monotone. The story was okay.

This story was a thrilling tale. Never knowing if they will make it or not. The narrator was great and brought the characters to life. Thanks for the fun dive into this story.

This was a great story. I loved the characters. I wasn't sure about the setting and time period, but I found I enjoyed it and could imagine each character and the role they had! Elizabeth Jasicki did a great job narrating.
