Unabridged Audiobook
I was so thrilled to hear the original source for two of my favorite movies. While you catch glimpses of the Tyrone Power version, you definitely recognize a lot of the Douglas Fairbanks silent production. I had a blast visualizing both of them in the role as I enjoyed these wonderful adventures of this Robin Hood of old California, the precursor of Bruce Wayne/Batman. The story flowed beautifully, and is well-written; it’s not stilted and doesn’t launch into dry descriptions or flowery details so that it becomes a bore. Although I’m sure most know the identity of Zorro, I still felt the mystery and the suspense, and at the end, the reveal was still delightful. All of the characters felt fleshed out, even the minor ones. My single complaint was the narration. When you have one narrator, that means taking on different voices and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. His voice for Lolita, our heroine, was a tad rough at first and elicited a chuckle from me at first when he pitched his voice higher. I got used to it, but it kind of threw me a few times. I almost wish they’d had a female narrator for the female parts, and used the male for the male roles. But that’s fine. The main thing is whether I’d listen to the audiobook again. Most definitely. It was a nice way to pass the time and dream of Tyrone or Fairbanks. Such a wonderful way to spend an afternoon.
Ran Mattison... Great classic story of good triumphing over evil. Very enjoyable narration, with character voice changers by Barry Eads.
superb. best book for kids and teens, especially for boys and young men.
