Unabridged Audiobook
Kind of meh. A really unnecessary story that doesn't really add anything to Vader's character arc. We follow a Jedi master whose fate is clearly sealed from the moment the book starts. You know this is not going to end well for anyone. Vader has a few moments where he still feels like Prequel Anakin. Whiny, angry, and lashing out about things beyond his control. This is a side of the classic villain we really don't need to see. It takes away from the mystique of the faceless villain even more than the prequels did. It's not even worth recommending for the sake of Marc Thompson's reading, because his Vader isn't as good as many of the other characters he's been known to voice. I'm not even sure why he's on this one, seeing as none of the classic characters he's good at impersonating are in this book. I guess he does a passable Emperor Palpatine. If you're looking for a follow-up to Jonathan Davis's epic reading of Revenge of the Sith, I recommend listening to Kenobi instead. It's like a western. You can also read my review of that book on this website as well.
A great read of an updated novel. Mark Thompson is amazing as usual!
