Summary
From the acclaimed author of The Troop—a book that is “utterly terrifying” (Clive Barker). “Fans of unflinching bleakness and all-out horror will love this novel….Each new shock is freshly disturbing” (Publishers Weekly, starred review).

A strange plague called the ‘Gets is decimating humanity on a global scale. It causes people to forget—small things at first, like where they left their keys, then the not-so-small things, like how to drive or the letters of the alphabet. Their bodies forget how to function involuntarily. There is no cure.

But far below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, a universal healer hailed as “ambrosia” has been discovered. In order to study this phenomenon, a special research lab has been built eight miles under the sea’s surface. But when the station goes incommunicado, a brave few descend through the lightless fathoms in hopes of unraveling the mysteries lurking at those crushing depths…and perhaps to encounter an evil blacker than anything one could possibly imagine.

This was a difficult read for me. It’s horror, through and through. Perhaps the most horrifying novel I’ve ever read (and I’m a seasoned horror reader). Theres a chapter about a quarter through the book that, as a parent, filled me with such anxiety that I came close to skipping to the next chapter. If I could give it a 9.0, I would. It’s not perfect and the ending is less than spectacular but the ride throughout is well worth the time spent. I heartily recommend for those who can brave it

For me this was an okay book. Not as good as The Troop, but not horrible. Things did get a little muddled at the end. You can definitely feel the Stephen King influence with this author. The narration was great.

what a ride. never read anything like it. *trigger warning* because I would have liked to know that there is a scene involving a dog if that's your limit.

Scary—a great thriller, if very dark. Kept me listening!

This book will redefine what you used to consider the darkest depths of your nightmares.

Really good. A bit slow at first but ends with scary detail, blood and guts. It was chilling.

The premise (the "Gets" disease) is never fleshed-out and feels like a flimsy excuse to basically spend the whole book under water, but terrifying descriptives at the end. Many nightmares from the visuals! Narration was amazing.
