Summary
It’s been several months since Lina and Doon escaped the dying city of Ember and, along with the rest of their people, joined the town of Sparks. Now, struggling through the harsh winter aboveground, they find an unusual book. Torn up and missing most of its pages, it alludes to a mysterious device from before the Disaster, which they believe is still in Ember. Together, Lina and Doon must go back underground to retrieve what was lost and bring light to a dark world.

In the fourth Book of Ember, bestselling author Jeanne DuPrau juxtaposes yet another action-packed adventure with powerful themes about hope, learning, and the search for truth.

Great book, love how everything connected in the ending. Might be a bit rushed of an ending to wrap it all up but it was a great series to listen to. Also dont know how to feel about the reference to the third book at the end but i guess its alright.

The final book in the Ember trilogy, which nicely wraps up the series. We got the feeling that the author was intentionally trying to wrap up the series, as some of the content was a little "final" when it perhaps didn't really need to be so. Nonetheless, the closure was appreciated by our 7 year old daughter, who would have been asking for the next book in the series if it hadn't so clearly finished. I was personally a little disappointed about the final nature of the green star, as I would have preferred for that particular topic to have been left out of the "Ember" universe, and for the star, perhaps, to have been something to do with the main plot of the novel, or even just left out altogether. But it doesn't detract from the main story, which is quite a bit faster paced than the previous two, so you'll need to pay attention. The book contained some good themes about convictions, believing in one-self, and loyalty, as well as a strong element of forgiveness, all of which are useful for children. There was a good opportunity for tackling bullying which was missed, but which can be drawn out if desired easily. The narrator was new, with a clearer accent for non-US listeners, which was appreciated.
