Summary
Jane Austen famously described Emma Woodhouse, the title character of her 1815 novel, as "a heroine whom no-one but myself will much like." Yet generations of readers have loved Emma, as much for her blunders as for her wit and vivacity. Emma, "handsome, clever, and rich," has nothing else to do but try to pair off her friends, and she consistently mis-reads the relationships and situations around her as much as she mis-reads her own heart. The novel features a wonderful cast of characters, including Emma's hypochondriac father, the odiously prideful Mrs. Elton, the mysterious and reserved Jane Fairfax, and Miss Bates, who never stops talking. (Summary by Elizabeth Klett).

I decided to read this after watching Emma (2020) and I really enjoyed it! I must say that the voices the narrator does for each character are on point compared to the movie so they were very easy to follow

Wonderful narration with a variety of pitch-perfect intonations and voices! Funny, affecting, subtle - Jane Austen.

My only complaint is the fast rate of narration. I prefer a slightly slower pace so I can better visualize the story. The same narrator did a beautiful job narrating Jane Eyre. In fact her delivery is fantastic in this telling as well but the story feels sped up to me, and I don't believe the narrator is actually reading that fast.

lovely book, especially love the narrator who has done a lot of the old classics

I thought the book to have promise up to a point, and then it dragged on seemingly without a point to make - maybe I was just too impatient. Couldn't bear to listen to the end.

Nice relaxing story.

I was pleasantly surprised by this title. I’ve seen a couple movie versions, so the story line and characters were familiar. But reading the book filled in some things I hadn’t understood about some characters and their choices. The book added depth that the screen just couldn’t supply. The narrator was also very pleasant. I’d possibly read this again; thoroughly enjoyed it, especially for fiction.

For an American narrator her upper crust English Surrey accents were spot on

It was great to listen to something so removed from the present. I enjoyed it very much!

I have been surprised to hear an American reading Jane Austen, but she does it very well. What I love about this book is that it is all about people and relationships which Jane Austen relates and describes so brilliantly.

It took me a long time to get into this story.... not my cup of tea, but last few chapters made it tolerable. I’m sure there are those who love this book, I tried, but it seemed superficial, bland and far from realistic to me.
