Summary
New York book editor Maris Matherly-Reed knows a bestseller when she sees one -- even if it is a tantalizing partial manuscript submitted by a writer identified only as P.M.E., with the return address of an obscure island off the Georgia coast. Maris is intrigued enough to search for him.
Her trip to Georgia to meet the mysterious author takes her to an eerie, ruined cotton plantation, where Maris finds Parker Evans, a man confined to a wheelchair who carefully hides his past. Coaxing his novel from him chapter by chapter, Maris gets caught up in his tale of two friends who rent a boat with a young woman for a night of sex and drinking. Only one person will return from that trip.
Disturbed about her sexual attraction to Parker and worried about her marriage to author and her co-publisher Noah Reed, Maris returns to New York where the delivery of Parker's newest chapters convince her they are more than fiction. She wonders how well she knows her husband and begins a harrowing search for a truth that ties back to a terrifying crime and a will use her, or anyone, to get his revenge.
Envy explores the way love and hatred shape lives in a breathtaking story of suspense.

I have read about half of her books and this one is hands down my favorite. The characters are well developed and the narrator really brings them to life. The narrator does a great job with all the voices and brings each personally through loud and clear. I loved this book!

The book was excellent. The characters were developed with depth and a keen sharpness. However, I didn't like the narrator. I found his voice to be too slow and lifeless and his southern drawl displeasing.

Just finished listening to this Sandra Brown novel----my first in several years. I enjoyed her then and even more now. This story was captivating and enthralling from start to finish. Very well written---even a newbie will appreciate the talent. Narrator took a little getting used to---at first, I felt he was portraying the hero a little harshly but as the story unfolds, you realize why. Will definitely read more Ms Brown novels!

o have tried to listen to this book from other sites, but have been unable to tolerate the echo and muffled recording. This particular recording from audiobooks.com is excellent! I was so excited to find it

Frankly I did not expect to like or get into this book but got very interested in the plot as it thickened with lots of twist and turns - some edge of the seat reading.

I really loved the interweaving of the author's writing of his "novel" and the story unfolding. The narrator was very good and the twists were believeable, if not entirely surprising. Then again, I think the reader is meant to figure this one out.

This was a well written, well-performed audio production. I loved the story and wish I'd rented the unabridged version so it wouldn't have ended so quickly. The story within the story technique kept me spellbound. Excellent use of plot and characterization, too. Rent it and enjoy!!!

Good book. I thought the narrator did a good job also. Though it was somewhat predictible I do recommend the book. Entertaining.

Really a great, story but the narrator is extemely annoying to listen to. The characters are so whimy and the southern accent is terrible. Characters who are young are made to sound like old men and it really takes a lot away from the story itself. Might be one of the books that the reader should really read themselves to appreciate the characters more fully. But S Brown really has a winner of a story in this page turner.

This is a great story within a story. A "page turner" that keeps your attention and makes you want to stay in the car to hear more. The only problem I have with this selection is the narrator. Can't stand him. His southern accent stinks and unfortunatly, most of the characters are supposed to have one. I believe one gentleman was supposed to be english but the accent sure wasn't. Weird. Also, the way he "speaks" for the women, including the main character, makes them sound whiney or vapid or rude. I think I would like this book more if I had just read it myself. However, the story itself is great and the narration should not be held against a wonderful author.

I have read five books by Sandra Brown but this was one of her best. It was one of the better books that I have ever read. Lots of turns, twists, and well written and well read. If you do not enjoy this one I would stop reading. I l ook forward to seeing this at the movies soon.

This is a fabulous book. It is much better than Ms. Brown's earlier endeavors. I listen to audio books during my long commute to and from work and most days, I hated to get out of my car!!!

Envy was pure GENIUS - a book within a book - what imagination Sandra Brown has! The characters were so real, I felt as though I was watching a movie. The narrator had a compelling voice, I didn't want to stop listening. Lots of twists and turns throughout, I couldn't wait to see what happened next. I can't imagine the abridged version - every word in this complete version was well worth the listen! This one rates 10 stars for me.

Great plot with interesting characters. Never read this author before and found her to be compelling and a good plot weaver! One complaint, a little heavy on the some of the intimate scenes between characters - a bit corny! Still, very entertaining stuff! And a well-crafted hero and villian!!

AWESOME book. Even though I thought I had it all figured out by the end, there were still a few surprises. Actually looked forward to driving anywhere!! Worth the read.

I loved this Book. This was my first Sandra Brown book. Parker Evans is a fascinating character. I didn't want it to end, but yet I couldn't wait to find out how all the characters were going to connect at the end. What an awesome story line, to write a book within a book. I highly recommend this book. I didn't want to mail this one back!!!

I really liked this book. Sandra Brown got me quite a few times with her plot twist. I like figuring them out and I usually do. The one thing I would have really loved was if the young lady that Noah was seeing was the women he pushed overboard. That would have really topped it all.

I really loved this book because of the characters and plot. The only thing that wasn't good was the reader. He was hard to listen to at the begining but toward the middle end I was too into the story that it didn't matter. Great book.
