Unabridged Audiobook
I cannot think of anyone that I would not recommend this book to and for! This is a timely and important topic for us all. The examples throughout the book depict individuals we surely all see in our feed and friends lists. Derhally's explanations and her summary "Tips, Takeaways, and Food for Thought" sections encourage the reader to examine their own relationship with social media and also the tools to be a thoughtful user/consumer of social media. The Facebook Narcissist is a well written and enjoyable read, I read it and then I immediately purchased it as a gift for friends!
This book offers an academic yet entertaining exploration of narcissism, specifically as it relates to social media. If you use social media, even if you feel it’s a harmless activity with little impact on your life, this book is a must read. If you don’t use social media, I believe any reader would benefit from this author’s thoughtful insight, thorough research, and clearly presented information. This book is well organized, brilliantly written, and easily relatable. The author offers advice for how to have a healthy relationship with social media and how to look inward at your own social media use. Each chapter ends with a “tips, take aways, and food for thought,” section, which helped me to engage in positive self reflection and recognize narcissistic traits displayed on social media. This book offered me a better understanding into my own social media behavior, how its use could impact my life and how others perceive me, as well tips for online safety. The author presents information on complex topics in an easy to understand manner and backs up these facts and details with sources and studies. Highly recommend this book.
If you’re concerned about social media and it’s impact on society and our future, this is the book for you.
