Unabridged Audiobook
Not what I expected at ALL! I downloaded this book based on title and was expecting it to be a morbid tale. It did have many morbid parts to it, but it really was a great dissection of the times and places and how laws, crime and punishment have changed. Definitely worth the listen!
Seems odd to enjoy a book about an executioner but this was mostly well done. If you listen to learn about a man through a well researched era and documents left behind by a man and his community about the happenings of their lives, it becomes something that can seep into your mind. After completing the book I found myself explaining to others that the book was, despite the subject, quite absorbing. I enjoyed the facts I learned and the lives of the central characters (people).
Fantastic book, grate conception of storytelling and awesome narration My full recommendation !!!
Extremely enjoyable and gave an entirely new perspective about the profession of executioner
A clear and nonjudgmental narration by James Gilles draws the reader into 16th Century European morals and presents a vivid account of city life and death. I commend this book.
Great book, interesting topic and the narrators voice is clear and not abrasive.
