Summary
Ken Follett’s magnificent new historical epic begins as five interrelated families move through the momentous dramas of the First World War, the Russian Revolution, and the struggle for women’s suffrage.

A thirteen-year-old Welsh boy enters a man’s world in the mining pits. . . . An American law student rejected in love finds a surprising new career in Woodrow Wilson’s White House. . . . A housekeeper for the aristocratic Fitzherberts takes a fateful step above her station, while Lady Maud Fitzherbert herself crosses deep into forbidden territory when she falls in love with a German spy. . . . And two orphaned Russian brothers embark on radically different paths when their plan to emigrate to America falls afoul of war, conscription, and revolution.

From the dirt and danger of a coal mine to the glittering chandeliers of a palace, from the corridors of power to the bedrooms of the mighty, Fall of Giants takes us into the inextricably entangled fates of five families—and into a century that we thought we knew, but that now will never seem the same again. . . .

Love Ken Follett and the way he weaves fictional characters with historical events. The story and characters are deep. The narrator is FANTASTIC! Looking forward to book #2.

Absolutely riveting. Wonderful book, superbly read. The narrator has an amazing command of accents and voices, and pulled me into the story in the first few minutes. My understanding of WW1 and the Russian Revolution was deeply enriched, too. I thoroughly enjoyed it (and immediately purchased book 2 in the series!)

Another excellent work of Ken Follett. The history of the probable causes of WWI, the discrimination of classes, the well developed characters all coming together to provide a thoughtful and entertaining listen. WELL DONE!!!

Excellent! I rarely read historical novels, but was enthralled by the rich historical tapestry woven by the intertwined perspectives of characters in France, UK, Russia, Germany and US, prior, during and after WWI. Fascinating, captivating, will continue with remainder of trilogy.

Huge fan of the book and the series as a whole. Gone through them several times now and still find them very enjoyable. I appreciate the author's style and he does an excellent job of conveying the feeling and sentiment of the events. I feel the narrator did about as good of a job as anyone person can be expected to do trying to portray more than a dozen different characters with any sense of variation. Overall a very enjoyable piece and I highly recommend it.

Slightly slow to start, but within a couple of chapters the Follet Magic kicked in and gripped me the rest of the way through!
