ONE OF THE ATLANTIC’S GREAT AMERICAN NOVELS OF THE PAST 100 YEARS

“Lauren Groff is a writer of rare gifts, and Fates and Furies is an unabashedly ambitious novel that delivers – with comedy, tragedy, well-deployed erudition and unmistakable glimmers of brilliance throughout.” —The New York Times Book Review (cover review)

From the award-winning, New York Times-bestselling author of Florida, Matrix, and the highly-anticipated The Vaster Wilds: an exhilarating novel about marriage, creativity, art, and perception.

Fates and Furies is a literary masterpiece that defies expectation. A dazzling examination of a marriage, it is also a portrait of creative partnership written by one of the best writers of her generation.

Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years.

At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness. A decade later, their marriage is still the envy of their friends, but with an electric thrill we understand that things are even more complicated and remarkable than they have seemed. With stunning revelations and multiple threads, and in prose that is vibrantly alive and original, Groff delivers a deeply satisfying novel about love, art, creativity, and power that is unlike anything that has come before it. Profound, surprising, propulsive, and emotionally riveting, it stirs both the mind and the heart.

I had a hard time getting through this book. I listen while commuting and normally look forward to my drives but with this book, I seemed to be reaching for music instead. It didn't seem edited to me but thrown together. If the two 'parts' had been in conjunction I think it would have been better. Two thumbs down for me. I do NOT recommend.

It was an interesting read, although not what I expected from reading the cover and descriptions online. The first section was weird. The 2nd section was better. I think I would have liked a back and forth telling of the story. The characters were almost unlikeable. The author tried to weave way too much together

The book was truly excellent. The narration could have been better but I don't think it took away from the experience.

An incredible book, the story plays out over the lifetimes of the two main characters. Groff's characters are real and flawed and you will want to know why. If you like Jonathan Franzen's books this story will appeal to you.

The first half of this book was nearly impossible to get through. I almost gave up. The second half was much better and made me like the first half more (hope that doesn't spoil it). Still wasn't a favorite.

Unlikeable characters, uninteresting story. I was so disappointed after all the races. Utter garbage.

I love this author.i listened to her book Arcadia a few years ago and I knew this book would be wonderful too and it did not disappoint. The narration was great very professional and all the characters were clear. When you have great narrating you don't need all the theatrics. This book was very honest thoughtful and honest to its charrcters. Wonderful! I do recommend her book Arcadia as well!

I too had a hard time getting through this book. It was all together too long, with some narrative just too hard to follow and unnecessary.

I must agree with the person that said it was terrible terrible. As hard as I tried I simply could not get through it and finally just gave up
