super slow start...halfway through and I could not understand the hype...and THEN boom! strong finish, solid listen and the narrator did a superb job carrying this book across the finish line...worth the slow start...outstanding (yet super dark)!

This book was AWESOME! I had a hard time getting out of the car and would sit in the garage just listening many evenings after coming home from work. My 27 year old daughter carpools with me, and she was mesmerized as well. Just waiting with baited breath for the next in this series to come in the mail!

This is one of the best books I've read in a long time. It gave everything a book is supposed to give and more. I enjoyed the audiobook so much I have purchased the series in paperback to reread it Books 2 and 3 just got better to me.

Loved this book. The first few hours were difficulty to get into because it’s a lot of background info. But once you get past that, the story is amazing!

This was a very interesting book . The characters were great and the plot of the book kept me interested in what would happen next. The reader was excellent and did the various voices so you thought they're were many readers. I can't wait to read the next one with Lizabeth Salander.

What a great book! Suspenseful, exciting and totally twisted at the end! There were many graphic moments that made my stomach turn but we're such detailed analysis of the characters you couldn't not appreciate how it was written. Great book!!!

Totally agree - relatively slow start but it's really just building up the story to when the action hits - and bam! It gets really good, really fast, and doesn't let up. Will definitely be reading (listening to) the rest of the series!

Great story - a little slow at first but then gets going with unpredictable plot twists.

I wasn't sure what to expect with my first read by this author. It started slow and I almost quit listening. Something told me to stay with it and I'm very glad that I did. I'm nearly finished with the second book in the trilogy and I'm thoroughly hooked on Larsson's writing style and his heroine.

After the beginning with names of Swedish places and streets that took some getting used to-it got very interesting so I couldn't wait for the next segment from this author

This was a great book to read. It's slow to start but once your in you won't be able to stop and will certainly look forward to reading the next 2 books in the series.

The book started off very slow, but close to halfway it got very good very fast. I would recommend it for sure but note it starts off slow so be patient.

This was the most fascinating book I have read (listened to) the readers were fantastic, I wanted to be in my car listening to it every morning. I found myself thinking that the characters were real and part of my life. I want to know more about what happens to the main character "the girl with the tatoo". I felt sad that she was becoming tender, and the book ended with her injured again. I want her to be happy and in love and being loved by another.

Surprise, surprise, surprise. I had just about given up on finding new books that not only held my interest but that I couldn't wait to return to. This is definitely a good read. Just ordered #2 in the series and I'm hoping it's at least as good as the first.

I've heard a lot about this series and decided to give it a try. Horrible! I couldn't get through more than the first half hour. Maybe it was the narrator but I couldn't stand it!

This book is so popular, and I really, really, REALLY wanted to like it - but I didn't. I'm not someone who needs lots of continuous action to hold my interest in a story. Just give me some good, solid, interesting characters, likeable or otherwise, and you can drag me through a lot of otherwise action-free pages. I've enjoyed other slow-paced books: "Out Stealing Horses," "Beachcombing at Miramar," "How Green was My Valley, all good, and none of them action-packed thrillers. But when you throw out a confusion of dull, spiritless characters and have them spend hours discussing slander trials and the Swedish business system before anything at all happens? Uh, no. Sorry. The book only began to get interesing when the girl with the dragon tattoo herself showed up, right at the end of CD#1, but by then it was too late. I just couldn't sit through any more.

This book was a tad interesting but I couldn't get through the author's "DETAIL".. The book could have been written in half the C-D's . I listened to the entire book as the story was good and the reader was great but the detail--way-way-way too much. I really don't care that the suitcoat was blue with a yellow tie with green up and down stripes that was tied in a loose knot and on and on and on.

I had already seen and enjoyed the movies (Swedish versions), and I see now that they were fairly accurate to the book, but the book is so much better. Loved it.

A very well writen multi-layered story. I love the quirky, genius, brave save the man, heroine Lisbeth. The dark aspects of the book were presented in a way that they are not gratuitously violent. (From what I heard it seems the movie may have done so,) I am now eager to see what happens next.

I've audio'ed upwards of 130 books via SimplyAudiobooks and this was a first for me. I got so into the book that I downloaded it to the Kindly app on my iPhone (my wife had previously read it on her Kindle) and read much of it that way. It got a little dicey when I'd have to advance the CDs in the car to match where I was in the book, but it was well worth it. A great mystery story which was well written and with characters that I really enjoyed...the good guys and the bad guys. HIghly recommended. Now onto the other two books in the series!

It was a little slow getting into the story. Ginny did then enjoy it. Bob couldn't keep all the characters straight; I had to keep reminding him who was who. He finally gave up but asked what happened after I finished listening to it.

I had a tough time getting into this book at first. The beginning has a lot of financial jargon that was a bit over my head which I found quite boring. I was going to stop listening all together until a co-worker talked me into continuing on and I'm glad I did. Over all I thought it was a pretty good book with an interesting plot. But, the author used a large amount of characters, with foreign, similar sounding names which was sometimes hard to follow. Not to mention that he calls some characters by the first name and then later by their last name which was confusing as well.

Excellent book, very suspenseful. Narrator was excellent and added to the compelling story. Did not want to leave the car at times as it was too good.

Profile Avatar
Anonymous

It was different which is good considering the regurgitated story lines of most books but it doesn't live up to the hype. Maybe that's the problem. Don't believe the hype and you'll enjoy it more.

I really liked this book. Definitely keeps your interest. I am renting the next book inthis series pronto! Definitely recommend!

This is one of the best series ever. Must read!!! Every single book gets better and you will be glad that the unabridged version is so long. I will listen to this again.

I'm confused as to what all the hype is about. I was bored and only continued listening in hopes it would get better. For me it did not. Too many characters up front and too much exposition. I didn't care enough about the characters by the time the real story started. Maybe I was in the wrong mood or not intelligent enough to "get it." Either way, I was not impressed and have taken the 2 sequels off my Book List.

Profile Avatar

I really don't see what all the hype is about on this book. It was an average read, but I'm not overly impressed. I had a hard time really caring about any of the characters.

Profile Avatar

I almost stopped listening to this because I thought it was boring and I found it hard, at first, to keep the names straight, and it took me some time to get used to the narrator's voice. After it got moving, I really liked it and I really liked the main, title character. Because of that I would like to listen to the others. But not right away, I will take a break.

What a disappointment. I read and heard so much hype about this book. It bored me to death.

Good, twisty turny detailed storyline kept my interest. Characters were well developed. Great narrator. I could have done with fewer sex scenes.

Great book! Keeps you thinking the entire time with great twists and turns. BUT, I highly suggest you go for the Unabridged version, which I don't think is available on this site. Try your local Library, it's worth it!
