Summary
The Great Gatsby, a work that seriously examines the theme of aspiration in an American setting, defines the classic American novel.
The novel was inspired by a youthful romance Fitzgerald had with a socialite, and by parties he attended on Long Island's North Shore in 1922.
Set in the Jazz Age on Long Island, the novel depicts narrator Nick Carraway's interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and Gatsby's obsession to reunite with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan.
The story is of the fabulously wealthy Jay Gatsby and his new love for the beautiful Daisy Buchanan, of lavish parties on Long Island at a time when The New York Times noted 'gin was the national drink and sex the national obsession,' it is an exquisitely crafted tale of America in the 1920s.
The Great Gatsby is widely considered to be a literary masterwork and a contender for the title of the Great American Novel.

I'm very sorry to have wasted my time and credit on this particular recording as the narrator has an almost entirely flat affect as if it's a computerized voice speaking. He mispronounces words, interjects odd and untimely pauses, and reads with a syncopation that seriously impacts the listener's ability to comprehend what's taking place. It is a substandard recording and I do not advise anyone waste their time on it.

Terrible. A classic for themes but what a boring story. Hands down the worst narration I've ever heard. In elementary school when you had to read aloud this was the kid that made you late for recess. He doesn't know how to even say words correctly so it's a brutal slog of an audiobook. Zero stars.

The book is wonderful. The narrator often mispronounces words, pauses awkwardly, and reads without inflection. He pronounces every s as a soft s. For instance, say Daisy. The s sounds like a z. This narrator says Daycee. It’s a small fault, but just one example of one-hundred of how this narrator destroys an incredible author’s work. Do not purchase this title. It is a disaster.

I love this novel but the narrator ruined it. It was like he can’t read out loud.
