Unabridged Audiobook
About: A celebrity wedding on a remote island in Ireland. Everybody wants to be there. Or do they? Things start out normally. Everybody is preparing for the wedding. Everybody is happy and getting along. Everything is perfect. Until the secrets start coming to the surface. Plot: This book was really intense! It was told from multiple points of view in the past and present times. I felt like it kind of read like Big Little Lies did. I found out that it's also a Reece Witherspoon Book Club read! It was definitely full of a lot of unexpected surprises. My advice is to pay attention to the small backstories that don't seem to really make sense. Characters: I really related to Olivia the most. Hannah too. They were very introverted people trying to fit in with an extroverted group of people. Will seems to be a decent groom. He has a bit of a playboy image but appears to be harmless. His best man, Johnno seems to be going through something that he's constantly self-medicating to forget. The bride, Jules, is overly selfish and beyond judgmental. She also seemed to have an anger problem. Narration: This book was narrated by a cast of six people. One for every point of view it seems. I think it was a brilliant idea. It brought the characters even more to life and made their personalities more distinct and alive. They all did a wonderful job! Suggestions: Without giving too much away, I was very disappointed with the ending. There were a lot of ends that should have been tied a little better. Things that should have been explained. Recommend: Yes!!!!
Incredible setup of characters, each and every one mattered and nothing was underdone though some may have had too much backstory - that’s probably what made the ending so twisting and amazing! You didn’t know what to expect and while it was satisfying it also left me rethinking so many moments in previous chapters. Gotta love the narrators accents. Very well done
Good book.
Outstanding story telling. Spellbinding
Very entertaining! Similar but equally impressive as her other book "The hunting party".
I loved this book. I found myself continuously anticipating the next chapters. It was thrilling and entertaining.
Talk about a small world! And the ironies! Maybe…too many. Enjoyed listening to this book. The narrators did a marvelous job.
WOW! This book kept me engaged from the very beginning. The author’s use of the characters points of view snd piecing the story together by going back and forth in time through the weekend was excellent. The ending was shocking as well, leaving me feeling both vindication and despair in turn. A must read. As usual, Reese called it.
It just ended suddenly and I just didn’t like the ending at all. The book was good and the narrating was good, but the ending was a disappointment.
I really liked it!
Loved this one! Enjoyed the twists and turns. Excellent narration too.
This one is one of my favorites! Unlike another reviewer, I found the story easy to follow. While the narration frequently shifts perspectives among the characters, it's always clear which one is "speaking." Not only are the names recited, but so are the roles. The story is excellent! Narration is also wonderful. If you're not British, it will be helpful to know that a "markee" is a tent that is often used for events, such as weddings.
Loved the story, great plot twist at the end.
Loved it! The unexpected twists relating to the characters was thrilling. This is my favorite narrator so far. Loved her accent!
Loved to plot twists!
This was a decent listen, but I was disappointed by the ending. It fell flat and seemed like a letdown after so much buildup through the rest of the story. I thought the narrators did a great job, and I liked the structure of the story, shifting the narrative between several very distinctive character's perspecives.
One of my favorite books!
I love any story involving Ireland and this did not fail! Perfectly eerie setup and enjoyable plot, narration and, conclusion.
This was a very interesting book. I wondered why I was getting only snippets of the characters in the beginning, but as it slowly came together I was on the edge of my seat. I just wish there were a couple more chapters at the end.
Loved the drama!
Another fantastic tale from Lucy foley! I didn’t see it coming and that’s exactly how I like it. This needs to be a movie!
loved that there were multiple narrators. the accents were good too.
I loved this book and the narrators! I loved the different point of views and trying to figure out what had happened before the author revealed everything!
An excellent story! If one were to know the setting of the plot, it may be thought to be "some of the same old stuff" - a group of people on an island, but the order in which this plot unfolds keeps the reader guessing, and the characters are very believable. The narrator is excellent.
It was a constant guessing game trying to figure out who was killed and who done it. It was suspenseful. The narrator did a good job. Easy to follow and understand.
Boring and predictable. I DNF’d this book. Couldn’t get through it
The ending was a bit abrupt, but I really enjoyed this book and the narration!
Slightly too much as an idea but great narrative and characters are depicted so well . I recommend !
I enjoyed the Irish accents in addition to the great story
Twists and unexpected turns. The ending could have been better. Seems like she just got tired of writing. Could have done lots more. I do recommend it tho
Excellent!! The story and the narrators keep you on the edge of your seat
Truly enjoyed! Not what you expect!
Starts a bit slow until you figure out all the characters but then captures you any Lucy Foley novel. Great twists!
Very well done and kept me intrigued the whole time. Loved the story, the twists and the narrators!
Really enjoyed this book. The plot design was excellent and I was invested in the characters. Narrators we’re good too. Loved the build up and tone as well as the twists and turns!
A whodunnit that is a little too drawn out with elaboration on the headspace of characters. We ended up skipping ahead without sacrificing too much.
Good story. You definitely have to listen closely to the details of each guests past.
Loved the suspense! Waiting for the movie….
Intriguing
slow start and could see the ending a mile off. Seemed a bit of a basic story to me.
Overall a great listen, I enjoyed hearing all the narrators used for each character. I felt the beginning was a bit slow and the ending wrapped up rather quickly, but I would recommend it if you'd like a twist ending.
I like when books use different narrators for different voices so you can really get the tone of the characters. I enjoyed the plot until the very end. Seemed like too many coincidences.
A gripping storyline, wonderfully narrated
It was a little slow until the end.
This is my first Lucy Foley novel. It kept my guessing right to the end. I enjoyed the style of the storey telling and the narration. I have a second one lined up to go. This is an author to watch! Give it a listen you won’t be disappointed.
It was tricky to follow this style of writing in the beginning due to the back and forth - however - so happy I kept up with it. I didn’t see things coming and nice element of surprises and twists.. I would’ve liked more closure on the characters at the end.
Loved it! Great characters and lots of twists! Great author!
great character development. I did kind of predict the a lot of it but it was still very well done.
I really enjoyed the narrator. However I thought the book started very slow and then ended very quickly and almost abruptly. I thought it was a tad cheesy that so many characters were tied together and the way it was done. It was a decent listen.
Suspenseful read! Kept me guessing the entire book and then BAM!!! Surprise ending. Loved it!
Liked the story but felt the ending left a lot of lose ends - thought there should have been more explanations/ better closure
I love Reese's book club selections. They are always a great listen
Surprisingly good and not predictable. I think the hopping back and forth in the plot was effective. Loved the different voices. Lots of drama!
Wow! The twists and turns and connections blew my mind! Between the compelling storyline and spot on narration I simply could not stop listening. I was spellbound right up to the wickedly surprising ending! The intensely foul language may be off putting for some.
Excellent story.
Good book, would make a great movie
Good read, struggled a little with the back and forth, Didn’t see it coming .
This was a great read. The ending left loose ends I wish were tied, but I would recommend. Narration was wonderful with so many talents.
I had a hard time putting this book down. A very good mystery even if slightly predictable. I figured out the why if not exactly who pretty early on. There are many characters with rich backstories. Incredibly “atmospheric” with excellent narration. I recommend giving it a listen.
I loved this book. So many twist and turns. I was floored at the end. The narrator was great but there was one character I thought could have sounded more realistic but other than that, thumbs up! The details were made to put me in the setting.
This was a great book to listen to! Suspenseful and the multiple talented narrators made this audiobook!! Loved it. Thank you!
It was pretty good! I expected a better ending but all in all it was enjoyable to listen to.
It definitely held my interest and was well written. I loved the interplay of various accents. I found the ending confusing regarding Hannah’s sister’s suicide and how it somehow was connected to Will. I thought it was Louis who was responsible. Did I miss something?
Incredible narration! Plot was great, too.
I enjoyed the book very much! I love the different narrators for each of the main characters! However, I didn’t like how the book ended. I still would recommend giving this a listen!
It’s a good book but it’s not much about suspense, I did see coming some of the “plot twist”
Not pleased about the poorly written, endless, graphic sex scene early in the book. Did not expect that based on the comparison to Agatha Christie in the description.
This reminds me of a good Agatha Christy murder. Only instead of being on a train it takes place at a wedding and just about everyone attending has a motive. A good read.
it was very predictable and didn't really leave me feeling like there was anything good about the book. I felt like the characters didn't develop in any way for you to care about them.
Honestly upset I wasted a credit on this book. I'm five hours in and it can't keep my interest. Too many characters for an audiobook in my opinion. So many different voices coming in and out make the plot confusing. The whole book is constantly switching back and forth between different days and different characters.
wonderfully woven plot. interesting characters and surprising ending.
I really enjoyed the book from Reese’s book club. There are so many twists and turns. The narrators were terrific. They really enhanced the events taking place. I chose this book randomly and a, so glad I did.
Good book. It kept me guessing until the end, great final twist, although, I was surprised it ended there. I would have like a few more things explained. Still worth the credit.
Great book! Really enjoyed it,
The story itself was nothing too exciting, and the conclusion was especially disappointing, but the narration was wonderful and I definitely enjoyed it way more as an audiobook than I would have if I was reading it on the page.
Decent overall book. Nothing Amazing or Great, just a good read/listen. Slow burning “who done it” type story, with some solid twist. ***Spoilers From here down*** The side story for Hannah was honestly not necessary in my opinion. Especially considering nothing was really done with it. It felt to me like the author just kinda didn’t know what to do with an extra character. That seemed like a very drastic stretch to connect her and her sister to the groom. Still good book, just felt like that side of Hannah’s character wasn’t needed. She didn’t need any more backstory than just being Charlie’s wife and being the only semi sane person at the event
Good story and narration. Certainly worth the credit:)
This was my first audiobook “read” and I’m hooked. I loved Agatha Christie mysteries as a girl - I’ve read them all in fact - and this book brought back all the excitement of a who-done-it with the added allure of seduction and romance. But my absolute favorite part was the brilliantly sophisticated narration. I was sucked right in from page one. Not to spoil it, of course, but I was hoping for something more satisfying at the end. I thought perhaps my disappointment was that the plot lines had to wrap up in such a perfect bow. Either way, I want to audio-read all of this authors books now. I’m a fan.
Fun. Lots of twists. A WHO done it to who several times over. A must read/listen
Good use of multiple narrators.
Pointless, brainless, devoid of style or insight. Narration overdramatized.
Entertaining plot, well written, and good narration
this was a very good weekend read in the foggy chill of my winter.
Great story and twists. Excellent narration
Great escape to steal away and become engrossed in this unpredictable - keep you guessing and second guessing read. Time just flew by with every passing chapter that kept me totally engrossed - never wanting to have to stop until the end.
Amazing.. you won’t be disappointed. Great surprise ending.
So many twists. These characters are ver complex.
Kept me guessing until the end.
I liked this book, it was fun and had lots of surprises. I gave it a 4 star instead of a 5 star because I thought it was a slow start. I also did not love the narration. The narrator voice was so low that I had to turn it up. And I found Will's voice was too old and did not portray his character as I envisioned. All in all, it was a fun read entertaining.
So I really wanted to love this book after seeing all the 5 Star reviews, but for me, it just didn't get that interesting or suspenseful until about 7 hours in. It was just ok, the ending was good which is why I'll go with 3 stars, could be a 3.5 if that were an option. Narration was ok, except Will's voice was much much older sounding than it should have been, and the general story telling narrator's voice was very quiet, had to turn up the volume every time he was on just to be able to understand him. Didn't love the narrators jumping around from present to past so often, seemed distracting to the story vs building suspense like it was intended to do.
Really great book, started off a little slow but i understand it was preparing for what was to come which overall made it that much more surprising when you start connecting the dots! I will be basing my Halloween murder mystery party off of this book!
Absolute cliff hanger. Wow.
Great story. The narrator's are great. I listened to it in 2 days. It would make a great movie.
Great listen! Cliff hanger
great ending
Fantastic! Smart and mysterious and exciting!
Excellent listen. The character development was great. Captured me from the very beginning. Loved it!
Overall, a great listen! It took a while to get to the gist of the thing. But once things started to unravel, I couldn't wait to find out what in the blue flamingoes was going on!
Such a fun read! If you enjoy Agatha,Christie like novels, try this one!
Great listen. Narrators good as well. I recommend.
Not enough character building and way too much swearing.... would have been much better with it.
The Guest List Author: Lucy Foley The guest list is a very mysterious thriller novel. It starts with a wedding taking place in an isolated island. The groom is a celebrity actor and the bride is the ambitious woman working as CEO of digital magazine. They both invited all the family members, friends, colleagues and many more from past and present. The party was a lavish grand celebration with food and alcohol. All the celebration things were planned well but all planned things do not go as expected. The bride, groom and their friends started playing the school days games but to their shock suddenly light went off and there was a scream of a woman heard by everyone. As soon the light came one woman was found in blood and died at the spot.I loved listening to the audio and was pleased to hear such thriller suspense story. This one is a story about solving a murder case at the party with too many people present having their own secrets and gossips. Happy reading!
Great book but there were some parts I felt they rehashed a bit too much.
I enjoyed listening. Each narator developed their character well. The story kept me engaged and the ending was a delightful surprise.
Dragged on
I liked this book; the characters were well-developed and the end wasn’t too obvious. I enjoyed the women narrators a bit more than I did the men, but all in all, it was well worth the listen!
Excellent articulation and voices. I did get a wee bit tired of the usual "Now. the Wedding Night"; but I understand that it would be necessary. A couple of sentences were so quiet I had to replay several times; but other than that - very impressive narration.
Couldn't get into characters!
Great book from beginning to end!
Great book, I love the different character narrations. With the crazy plot twist, I could not stop listening!
Couldn’t put it down!
Took time for me to get into the book-- at times it reminded me of the hunting party which wasn't a great thing . Then about half way through things started coming together. I almost stopped listening which I never do, and I'm glad I didn't .
