Unabridged Audiobook
I have had the privilege of seeing the production of heroine at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was blown away by the play and the performance by Mary Jane. Having worked in the field of trauma with survivors of childhood sexual abuse and adult sexual assault and rape I felt everything in heroine is authentic and real. To tell the story of Danna with such honesty and integrity, bringing the reality of her experience to audiences gives a voice to Danna and the countless survivors who are regularly silenced. A story of pain, survival and redemption. Anne Macdonald Scotland An amazing play and now audio book will enable a new audience to be part of Dannas journey
I found Heroine to be honest, wonderfully literate, and beautifully acted. And, based on 35 years of experience in working with Veterans with PTSD and other disorders of extreme stress, I can add that this play is informed by a firm understanding that psychological trauma is a wound at the core of who and what we are.
Listened to Heroine over the last three days. Loved it. Especiallly the ending. It really takes you through the whole gamut of emotions. And I can’t believe how many voices you can drop into like that. And the sheer horror of the main character having to serve alongside and protect the men that raped her!!! Excellent!
I would love to see the play
Amazing, heartbreaking story, brilliantly told and read
Stunning, brilliant, engaging! This story was heart wrenching but such an important topic. Mary Jane Wells made it come to life. I loved the way she would step out of the story and talk to the listener then take you right back into the action. The story is so intense that she almost had to do that to hold your hand while you both lived it. Terrific!
