Unabridged Audiobook
5 mins into it and that was it. The Stuttering was unbearable. Good thing it was a VIP credit. I'm sure there's good info in here but I couldn't take the poor narrating.
There was lots of good info and I learned a lot but the narrator sounded like a high school professor giving lectures, which I would assume he is. He obviously knows a lot about this topic but the “uh”s and “um”s were so prevalent it was hard to follow the intended thought!! Especially when other books are so beautifully read, this was a HUGE departure from the books I usually listen to!! My high school speech coach wouldn’t have stood for this delivery!!
Someone has to say that: dramatic lecturing purely butchering such a fantastic subject
Narrator is not reading properly, although title might be interesting
To be clear, this is not a book. This is a college lecture series that has been gathered in one place.
Good look at the history and entertaining.
Fascinating series of lecture.
I liked it very much. Learned a lot and was able to link knowledge gained from other sources to gain a deeper understanding. Found it to be well researched- mostly. However, in his discussion of the failure of the Greenland settlements he really didn’t offer a very thorough analysis in his discussion. Theories have been evolving since Jared Diamond’s book,Collapse, but Fee addressed neither Diamond’s arguments nor the new data arising from archaeological digs on Greenland. I would liked a big nor engagement on that topic but overall I enjoyed it very much. The narrator was good but not a professional reader. I actually liked him - he gave it an informal, collaborative sort of energy.
Professor goes into details on subjects often overlooked or barely touched on in other books and lectures I’ve heard about the Vikings. He talks about language and runes more than the average lecture but would have liked more. Overall a great listen and definitely recommend.
Debra, I agree. Stammering PHD dont play well. This guys a lecturer?!
Bad narrator very offputting
