Summary
The Importance of Being Earnest is a classic comedy of manners in which two flippant young men, in order to impress their respected beloveds, pretend that their names are “Ernest,” which both young ladies believe confers magical qualities on the possessor. It was first performed for the public on February 14, 1895 at the St. James’ Theatre in London, and is regarded by many critics and scholars as being the wittiest play in the English language. The play is funny. The recording is terrible. It sounds like each part was recorded by the actor and then they were stitched together. The volume and timbre changes with each character

My first Oscar Wilde book and this was absolutely genius with the right dash of sarcasm and humour

I love this play and have read it/seen it numerous times, but I couldn’t get past the opening scene in this narration.

Didn’t like narration

Story was clever enough, but needed readers with a better sense of timing and inflection to do it justice. Since this is a play, everything depends on the dialogue.

The book is hilarious of course. But, I do think the actors did not do it justice. Particularly the aunt and the two girls. The male actors were fine, and the servants were great.

Don’t bother … there are separate recordings- sounds awful

A play I have known and seen many times completely ruined by the dreadful narration. That and the fact that for some reason none of the books will pay right through. I doubt I will bother listening to any more

Individually, the narrators are fine. It's the way it recorded and stitched together. Terrible. Couldn't do it.

it was less if a book and more of a playwright. some of the voices had really bad mics but it was still a fun story with a good twist at the end.

I stopped listening as soon as I realized it was a play. Im not a fan of listening to plays but if you are, you might give it a try

the book could not keep my attention

Too much accents, exaggerated drama and range in volume. The play seemed alright and I would listen to it with a more humorous narrator.

not a book I felt moved to finish.

The play itself is delightful. This recording, however, is very uneven in both volume and performance level.

Really funny play. Narration was with good effort but doesn’t sound like a professional recording

One of my favourite audio books. Listened to it many times. All roles are narrated very well and very funny. Couldn't help laughing and mimicking the characters as I listen!

The male narrators were very good but the female narrators were unbearable to listen to, especially the women reading Cicily. I couldn't even make it all the way through. She sounded like a robot.
