Unabridged Audiobook
Enjoyed this book and narration . Engaging! Listenned on boring road trip. Made trip enjoyable
A tremendously great book! Guessed the killer very early but the story and the ending oh my gosh the ending was amazing!! Narrator was also wonderful!
This book was a vip reward. I was captivated from the beginning. I intend to add this author to my list of favorites. Excellent listen!
surprisingly good.
Loved it!
I really enjoyed this book, it held my interest the whole way through and I completed it over a couple of days. The narrator was excellent in my opinion. He voiced the characters well and switched between Irish and English accents smoothly and easily. I had an incling of who the murderer was before the end but can’t say in all honesty that I got it because I had a couple of “possibles” in mind. The ending was very good. I highly recommend this book.
Very good book, kept me guessing and was surprised at the end. Will definitely read more of this series.
Entertaining, but felt a bit derivative / unoriginal at times though - not my favourite genre, so I am a little hard to please in that regard. Even so, I would listen to Hugh Dancy`s wonderful narration of just about anything.
Good characters, intriguing plot with a surprise twist. Great narration. Who could ask for anything more?
Kept me guessing.
Great book. Thought I knew the killer 3-4 different times. Would definitely recommend this book.
Best mystery I’ve read in a long time! Kept me interested until the end, and I kept trying to guess the killer (never did). Hugh Dancy did a great job, I love when actors bring their skills to narration. Highly recommend.
A very good story that kept my interest and had a twist at the end.
Decent who dunnit, held my interest and was an easy listen. Hugh Dancy did a great job with the various voices helping me to differentiate the characters by voice.
I admittedly struggle to find something in the VIP section that interests me. While I tend to prefer literary mysteries (PD James) or funny ones (Christopher Brookmyre), unlike other mysteries I've tried, this is the first VIP selection I've listened to all the way through.
The plot is not convoluted but that doesn't make it less exciting rather it's streamlined and really builds up pace, eventually hurtling towards what you expect to be the final reveal - and then there's another one which bowls you over. Very skillful writing and excellent narration, would definitely read more from this author.
Great narrator and book. Would have given it 5 stars but the author kept switching back and forth on the main character's first and last name that at one point I thought Gregory was his first name or another character.
Enjoyed listening to this book
Good who done it mystery. Great narration!
The book had me riveted from the start! So much complexity and suspense. The Narrator was superb- voicing each character perfectly! I highly recommend this book/Audiobook!
My new favorite writer! Loved listening to it and want to pursue the series.
I thought this was good story. I actually didn’t figure out who the killer was .
Great story didn’t guess what would happen in the end!!
Both Well written and well narrated, highly recommended.
This was a very engaging thriller. I enjoyed both the story and the narrator
This is book one in the series and it truly left me ready to start the next!
I really enjoyed this book. Different to my usual choices.
Well paced writing. Keeps you guessing who done it. Narrator did well with the Irish accent for many of the characters.
Really enjoyed this book. It’s well written and the narration is great. Looking forward to reading the next one.
I wouldn't say this book is particularly special in any way, but I gave it 5 stars for being satisfactorily entertaining. The story moves quickly and is interesting, albeit a bit predictable, but overall I found it a fun/easy read. The narrator was good at distinguishing characters with accents too.
This book was great! Dr. Gregory is competent, brilliant, and very likable. The story is well written and flowed well. I highly recommend this author and this series. I've already ordered the second of the series.
Really enjoyed this book. The mystery was well thought out and the ending did leave me wanting to read more from the main character.
Great book. Suspense and great storyline.
This book was okay. I enjoyed the story, but not the preaching! Not for God, but against Him... Also the determination that all people are a victim of their circumstances rather than responsible for their own actions... I am not against people believing these things, but I don't think exposition of these views belongs on the pages of fiction. Leave that to the halls of philosophy.
Enjoyed.
It was slow going at first but then I was hooked! Loved the ending! Definitely interested in the authors series of Alex Gregory.
Great story. Good narrating.
It was a good listen. I certainly did NOT figure who the guilty party was.........not even close>. The narrator was very good also differentiating between a British and Irish accent all the way through the book.
An enjoyable first outing with author LJ Ross and the opener to her Alexander Gregory series, Impostor. A young married mother is murdered in a small village community in Mayo. The police are clueless and send for London based psychologist, Alexander Gregory to help build a profile of the killer. I enjoyed the setting for this one and Gregory's involvement in the investigation, which seems to be very much a family affair. The matriarch, Maggie Byrne is the town's mayor and her two sons, Niall and Connor work for different branches of the Garda Síochána and are heavily involved in the investigation - too close probably. We have a further murder and Gregory's thoughts on the killer's motivation and issues. There's a flip-flop back to London and Alex's daily life and patient case load. Back in Ballyfinny, we have a growing list of possible suspects, including the Mayor's sons, a local priest and some other characters we meet from the small village. When the revelation came as to the killer's identity, it wasn't someone I had previously considered, though it wasn't quite so left field that I felt the author had taken liberties. Overall, I enjoyed the story and the narration was good. The outcome was credible, the characters well developed and the book carried along at a decent clip. LJ Ross is definitely an author I'll be reading more of in the future. 4 from 5 Read - (listened to) October, 2021 Published - 2019 Page count - 311 (7 hrs 3 mins) Source - Audiobooks Fomrat - Audible

I enjoyed it immensely. It really kept you guessing as to was the guilty one(or ones). Narrating superb. Immediately downloaded the next book even though I had to pay for an extra credit.
Great narration and story...kept me guessing the whole book. I will follow this narrator and author.
Easy book to listen, with enough twists and turns to keep me hooked.
EXCELLENT novel, excellent narration. can't wait to listen to the other two books.
This was a good book to listen to, kept me listening. There were some twists and turns that threw me, some that didn't, and some that had me rolling my eyes. Even so, it was a good audiobook to listen to, especially on a long drive, and worth the investment.
Ingenious combination of psychological thriller and “place” as a character. Looking forward to reading more of this author.
Excellent story line with interesting a developed characters. I really enjoyed the narrator as well.
Despite the Irish accent not being CD-ROM Mayo but a lovely soft mor NortherIrish I enjoyed the story and narration immensely.
