I find fun with this series. Not fun as in hah-hah. But fun as in the world is so vividly crafted in a deadly kind of way. I loved seeing Cass, Teag, Sorren and others along the way. She must solve the mystery of the bound object and of course stop a killer. Courtney Patterson was a new and interesting voice for me with this series. I did find that I had a entertaining journey in the world that was all Gail Z. Martin and the wonderfully crafted characters from the Deadly Curiosities series.

This is the only book I've read of this author under this pen name and the first audiobook I've listened to with a female narrator that hasn't been a well known actor/celebrity. The narrator does a great job especially considering the huge cast of characters, which I struggled to keep everyone straight at times.   I did feel that it lacked the emotional connection of the paranormal gay romances. The plot was great, the monsters/ghosts/curses were interesting and the book was well written. However, while the excitement and dangers come thick and fast I never really worried for anyone's safety and I think that can only be down to the lack of emotional connection. If this had been a Vic and Simon book I'd have been on edge the whole time. There is an ongoing gay romance for one of the MC's friends, and of course Vic and Simon make an appearance. Also, if you are following the Witchbane series (Seth and Evan) this is an ideal read because it takes place just before Unholy and acts as an introduction for the characters you'll meet there. 

4.75 Stars Narrator: Courtney Patterson Ms. Patterson is a new narrator to me and I enjoyed her work immensely. I loved the easy-going southern accent, and distinct voice of our brave heroine Cassidy. The narrator handled a multitude of different characters with professional flair. Perfect pacing and easily recognizable voice changes added to this top-notch production. The tone of some of the men did not sound very masculine but overall that did not detract from the audio. I must confess – I was mesmerized when Simon was overtaken by the spirit of their long-dead ancestor. The audio was action-packed with lightning-quick fight scenes. Humans, vampires, and paranormal visitors were all present and quite entertaining. I highly recommend this exciting, listening experience, and hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Author: Gail Z. Martin Storyline: This heart-pounding paranormal features Cassidy Kincaid the shop owner of Trifles and Folly, an antique and curio shop. Her store is not only a successful business but a cover-up for the “Alliance”, a coalition of mortals and non-mortals that protect Charleston, which seems to be one of the most heavily haunted areas ever. Cassidy is blessed or perhaps cursed with a very unique supernatural gift. She can read and sense the history of objects she touches, and tell if there is any dangerous magic contained within. Cassidy teams up with a slew of paranormal avengers to safeguard her beloved town. Cassidy’s best friend and assistant Teag is a talented weaver that can infuse wards and powerful protective magic into his artwork. To complicate things a tad further, Cassidy’s business partner is a 600-year-old vampire named Sorren. All this being said, I would recommend you read/listen to some of her other books in her series. Having some background on this crew, I did not feel lost but be mindful, there are so many characters in this tale, it is nice to have a little history of them. There were times I felt a little confused and needed to revisit sections due to the lightning pace of some of the battles, and the large crucial cast of fighters both good and evil. It did not take away any enjoyment for me personally and I was totally immersed in this riveting tale. Really bad magic has wormed its ugly way into Charleston as Caribbean ghosts are restless and begin to terrorize and murder the locals. Cassidy and her crew frantically chase down the “Dark Objects” that are alluring the innocent and then killing them off. Bodies start to pile up and the causes of death are bizarre and cannot be rationally explained. Worst of all, a sugar chest that has immense black magic has the capability of destroying a large portion of the population. Talk about pressure for the coalition. Be prepared for a fast whirlwind climax that at times had my head spinning as the intrepid group of supernatural fighters deals with a frenzied attack of everything nightmarish.  

4.5 Mayhem and magic! This is the first book of Gail's pen names I've read and while Cassidy has been mentioned in many Morgan Brice books I was interested to know more about her, her magic, and her team which is an even bigger found family of magical (and "other") people I just loved. While my first read of their series I didn't feel too lost and got a really good feel for the characters. So much happens in this book, there seemed to be a crisis at every turn. I loved the Simon and Vic cameo! I love how all/most of Morgan/Gail's book intertwine worlds and characters (allowing for awesome cameos

The Crew Are Back I didn’t used to be a huge paranormal fan. I wouldn’t say I’m a huge one now, but I’m slowly being won over. Gail Z. Martin/Morgan Brice is a real reason for that. I normally stick to books with LGBTQ protagonists, but being a fan of Ms. Brice’s Badlands and Witchbane series, I knew I had to pick this book up because Simon, Vic, Seth, and Evan all make cameo appearances. As well, there are other gay couples quite prominent in the story, so I was more than happy to dive in. The world Ms. Martin has created is astonishing. Ghosts, demons, supernatural spirits, witches, good versus evil – everything is all wrapped up in this package of seemingly ordinary people doing extraordinary things. Now, do I personally believe in all this stuff? Uh, no. Do I enjoy reading books written by writers with such imaginations? Yes. On to this book. Cassidy Kincaide, Simon’s cousin, is the POV character for the entire book and that just worked for me. She’s a psychometric, still learning the full extent of her powers. Being surrounded by others with supernatural powers definitely helps. When a man approaches their group and talks about being cursed and knowing he’s destined to die, I was intrigued. Thus began a battle to save his soul. There was mystery, there was suspense, there was a proposal at a birthday scene…a little bit of everything. And yes, my favorite characters all popped up. I enjoyed this book, and will definitely pick up more in the series. Courtney Patterson is a new to me narrator and I really enjoyed her performance. She was just perfect for this role, as Kale Williams is for the two Morgan Brice series. Great job, can’t wait for more.

Wow just wow. This book is packed with awesome characters, crazy magical relics, lots of ghosts and demons,action galore. It keeps you on your toes and listening. I actually liked the narration. Not often to female narrators get my attention but I’m felt each character and the voices didn’t come across cartoonish or silly. If you can get the audio I suggest it. If not grab the book!

Inheritance is Book 4 in the Deadly Curiosities series. Cassidy, Simon's cousin, and her friends had their work cut out for them in this one. Killer ghosts, Pendlewood family curse, cursed objects, a demon box. I love a good urban fantasy paranormal story and this one was a constant adventure. It drew me in from the very beginning and had me on the edge of me seat until the end. Definitely recommend.  Narrator Courtney Patterson has a wonderful voice and did an amazing job. A real treat listening to her.

I really enjoyed this story! This is the first time reading or listening to anything by this author. She integrated the story line really well with other characters from her pen name persona. I absolutely love this world she has created, full of magic, witches, vampires, demons and lots of snark! The crossover was well written, highly recommend. This was my first time listening to anything by this narrator. Courtney Patterson did a fantastic job with the narrative! Each voice was distinct, clear and concise!

I love the way all of Martin's/Brice's worlds interweave and characters from different series show up to help characters in other books. I never know which of my favorites will appear in any book. The plots of all these stories are wonderful - creepy and mysterious, but what I really love are all the details Martin provides. You really believe that these people are researchers because you get to follow them along their research paths and make discoveries with them. Just like I love M.R. James and H.P. Lovecraft for their antiquarian characters I love Martin/Brice for theirs. Courtney Patterson is a new narrator for me but I thought she did a wonderful job with all the different characters both male and female. I would definitely listen to more books where she is the performer.

Inheritance is another fun urban fantasy from Gail Z. Martin. This particular one weaves in several supernatural entities from the Caribbean. Some were horrifying and some made me laugh… but were also kinda scary. There’s 2 cow monsters and at first, this made me laugh…. but then I recalled the feral brindle cow that considers a local camping ground his territory. Have you ever been growled at by a cow? Yep, we ran. So I can understand how these monsters might scare the poo out of people as they are chased through empty parking lots. This particular book pulls in several characters so if you’re thinking to jump into the middle of the series, this isn’t the book for you. It’s been a while since I last read a book in this series and I had to rack my brain a little to recall who all these side characters are and what their special abilities are. Still, it’s great to have Teague and Cassidy at the center of everything. It was also great to see Sorren, though, as usual, I could have used more of him. The story is a bit of slow burn with our heroes solving several small mysteries before the big mystery, and the Big Baddie, make an appearance. The tension and the action all ramp up and we get a satisfying ending. All together, 4.5/5 stars. The Narration: So this series keeps changing narrators and that always bothers me a bit no matter how talented the individual narrators are. Still, I will not hold that against this narrator because the decision of who is hired to narrate the book is in someone else’s hands. Courtney Patterson did a good job as Cassidy, capturing the regional accents. Patterson’s male voices could use a bit more range and masculinity for some of the characters. Her female voices came in a great range of age and accents and demeanors. The pacing was good & there were no technical errors. 4.5/5 stars.
