I love all Krakauer books! This one is one of my favorites. Excellent read!! I highly recommend it.

So here's my take on this book: Jon Krakauer is a great author and I've enjoyed his other books. This one was similar - exhaustively researched and very interesting. I liked the narrator too. The reason I gave this four stars was because even though I enjoyed the book, I found myself constantly annoyed by Chris McCandless, despite krakauer's best efforts. My opinion of him got slightly better as I learned more about him, especially right at the end of the book. But overall he still strikes me as a somewhat selfish dreamer with no grounding in reality. That said, the book was definitely interesting and kept my attention.

Excellent read. I was unaware of the fact that the book was not just the story of Chris McCandless but includes the stories of other nomads as well which I found interesting. It seemed as though Krakauer was engaging in a bit of self exploration which I can appreciate because I think we all tend to do this to some degree, and also because I felt it made him more engaged in really researching and exploring every detail of McCandless' life and journey.

Such a great book

I read the hard copy of this book a while back and just reread it again. Great read

I have listened to this audio book 3 times now. I love and admire Chris McCandless. I find him intriguing and brave. Unique and alluring. I feel we can all relate in some way to his sense of just wanting to get away from the world and get lost in nature and within ourselves. I don’t think his arrogance cost him his life, perhaps a bit of naïveté combined with some bad luck contributed but that doesn’t deter from his true inner character. I love how Krakauer added bits of historical parallels and relatable quotes to this book. He also pieced together those last few years of Chris’s life with amazing detail considering the limited amount of information he could find. I mean, after all, it was Chris’s ultimate goal to lay low and NOT be found during that time, so pulling together that brilliant story was not easy I’m sure! Phillip did an amazing job of reading. Every single time I feel like I’m right there living beside Chris. Thank you for making miles and miles of walking just that much more enjoyable by listening to this.

I remember reading this book years ago, Jon Krakauer is a master storyteller. the story of Christopher McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp is amazing and tragic.

Lovely. Stoic. Brave.

This is a terrific story of adventure and misfortune.

Narrator is boring and difficult to listen to after awhile. Overall, the book is not as good as I had hoped, but I am not sure if this is due to the narrator being difficult to listen to and I found myself frequently tuning him out making the story a bit confusing and difficult to follow. Perhaps if I actually read the book rather than listen to it I would feel differently about it.

Interesting and informative. Not just about McCandless but about the strange community of off-the-grid nomads and hermits
