Summary
Set in the future, 'The Iron Heel' describes a world in which the division between the classes has deepened, creating a powerful Oligarchy that retains control through terror. A manuscript by rebel Avis Everhard is recovered in an even more distant future, and analyzed by scholar Anthony Meredith. Published in 1908, Jack London's multi-layered narrative is an early example of the dystopian novel, and its vision of the future proved to be eerily prescient of the violence and fascism that marked the initial half of the 20th century.

I am currently reading the free version of this book so cannot review the narrator. I appreciate and consume with fascination Dystopian/Utopian literature the authors who are brilliant in their eerily prescient analysis of social conditions and the plight of citizens living in the Western World. London now joins my list of brilliant authors: Atwood, Orwell, Butler, Huxley, Zamyatin, author of the suppressed "We." What makes London unique is his focus on economics. In The Iron Heel, his protagonists give detailed analysis and historical documentation on Capitalism, Socialism and the political players of the day. Highly recommended for students of History, Social Science and Economics.
