Unabridged Audiobook
book was good. narrators not so much. i do not care for the change of readers.
I had no idea what this book was about before starting it. I thought this book was very underrated as I ended up liking it more than War of the Worlds and had never heard of this one. I thought the book was inventive and unique even though I love animals. The narration was difficult to listen to, and sometimes I had to rewind to try to figure out what the narrator said.
Draws you in
A wonderful story which I enjoyed very much. The narrators were mostly terrible.
I loved the book I was able to immerse myself on the island but unfortunately was quickly ripped away because of the change of the narrator I would go from a strong young man's voice to an old peaceful soothing voice in all the wrong places
not good no no no
This is the first time I had listened to this book. I found the book interesting but some of the readers were very hard to understand.
This is easily my least favourite book by Wells. Any favour it might have found in my ear was entirely precluded by the truly criminal sound quality. The last straw was the ensemble narration by some terribly incompetent readers. Though some of the narrators were able, their performances were betrayed by the missteps of the rest. Very nearly unlistenable, but, I did persist to the unresolving end. Better to skip this particular reading.
well written, draws you in and keeps you interested, narration let's this book down , most is OK but some you just want to skip as it is so hard to understand, which is ashame as it detracts from a good story.
There are way too many different narrators. The story was good though.
Great story! So glad I continued listening despite the change in narrators, which I found to be somewhat distracting. Not sure why the narrators changed? Some were good and some were not so great. With listening to if you can get past the narration.
I couldn’t even stand to listen. The voice didn’t match this book well at all and the static was terrible. Such a shame too :(
A very good book indeed although it would have been nice to have just one narrator.
I enjoyed the book but the changing of narrators was maddening to me. It almost didn’t allow me to fully immerse myself in it because of the constant change in narrators.
I don't mind the change or narrators that much if they can each do well, but a few in this one were monotone and monotonous. Takes away from the quality of the book, especially at the climax.
The book itself was fine. The reading of the book was a little confusing because of all the different readers. Some were men and some women. I was four chapters into it before I realized that they were all reading the same characters.
A very good book to listen to it I really enjoyed it. I could’ve done without the lady towards the end I did not joy her voice.
honestly I thought it was a good book, it would be a great book to listen to with better narrators. I couldn't stand the one woman near the end with the scratchy voice. Definitely a good listen for free!
The story is great but having over 5 different people narrating the same character of a first person narrative greatly diminishes the enjoyment of the read. At first I thought it was multiple characters and was confused
A fan book. I liked the Reader also.
Not a great book made especially tedious by some narrators who shouldn’t narrate.
If you don't like scary and are kind-hearted toward animals, you probably won't like this book. I did not enjoy it and the ending was lacking. Multiple volunteer readers. Most readers are decent but a couple are hard to listen to.
Great book! Some moments are actually quite horrifying. I would highly recommend it.
Very interesting story. Some of the narrations were so boring and monotone that I could not give the story my full attention.
Thus was a fascinating story. I definitely recommend it. the narrators however are all over the place in terms of good and bad. that are volunteers however and so not too much bad can be said. It was very distracting however.
Brilliant story, one or Welles' finest. Inconsistently narrated by the good and the incomprehensible.
Do not listen to this. The narration is horrible. They use different peoples' voices and many are obnoxious. I had to stop listening about 5 times from irritation. Especially because of two of the women narrators.
The story is fantastic. The sci-fi is outdated, but the ideas are timeless. HG Wells is a master. The quality of readers is inconsistent.
The book was great however the different narrator nearly every chapter was irritating and a couple narrators had heavy accents and others had some noise in the back ground
Each chapter is read by a different person. Some read very well, some others barely understandable.
As much as I love this story, I find Librivox recordings mostly unbearable. From poor English from non-native speakers to simply low-quality audio or narration skill, I'd recommend another, more cohesive version of this title.
Omg the narration for 17th chapter is horrible. I know they are volunteers, but I can't comprehend past the grandma's hoarse, disgusting cigarette lungs. That is a big disservice.
