I hate to read

The story was very good. The recording sounded like it was done in a bathroom with an inexpensive microphone.

A whole lot of boring talk just for some mild excitement toward the end, with an unsatisfactory end. The reader sounded bored by his own story. The message of the story was interesting and the pig head part was the coolest, I suggest you read this on your own, not this audio made it hard to enjoy.

I've read that this book is now required reading for High School students and since I've experienced this book for the first time, I can see its application. The story is about a group of boys shipwrecked on an island who try to form their own society, and eventually fail miserably. They make careless mistakes in their environment and with each other that lead to this failure. The story is entertaining and offers many lessons in leadership, why laws are important and that we must all participate in a society or be doomed to savagery.

Good quick read

I loved it! I would 100% recommend this book very entertaining!

Good book. However, I feel like the narrator was a little boring. Yes, it's cool that the author is the one narrating but he was very monotone and don't use much inflection. The only reason I used the audio book is bc I don't have time to read and when I'm at work I can just put my earbuds in and listen. If I had the time to read the book, trust me I would've read it and it would've been a much better experience.

It is so special to hear a book read by the author himself. Wonderful! A powerful story that everyone should read.

the narration is incredibly bored and ubenthusiastic

I read it in preparation as required reading for a course I'm going to teach. I'm glad to now know the story and to better understand what transpired on the island. It's not the kind of book I'd typically be drawn to but I get why it ended up in the canon. I appreciate that the writer also narrated but there were times he sounded utterly bored with his own story. I also grew quite annoyed at the overuse of the word 'ululation' in the last couple of chapters.

I think it's cool

I think this is an exceptional account of a dystopic society.

it is a good book. I love it but I didn't want to read it in the beginning=_= but it really is a good book.

Great book with mild description love it ! The story though old has great characters and many conflicts that make it more interesting as the boys grow and have to work together

Good light read - kept me wondering what would happen to them. Although nothing like the professional actors who read books now, I liked that the author was the reader because he put his intentions into the reading.

This book is good, but it is very slow moving and left unanswered questions through out the whole story. Sure its a great book, but in my opinion this book accomplished a two at the max.

A book that has long been on my reading list but that I have never gotten to. Audiobooks.com made it easy to to cross it off my list and I did not feel short changed because I listened instead of read. In fact, listening to some author himself read as well as provide first hand insights made it even better.

One of my top two books of the year! It was fascinating and suspenseful. It was an interesting way to understand the social order. An added appeal was that the author read it and had a little bit of commentary on it. I had hesitated for so long to read this book because I felt like I "should" read it, but the idea of reading about a bunch of teenage boys didn't appeal to me at all. I also thought it would be too juvenile since most people I know had read it in high school. Instead, I really enjoyed it.

I agree with the other listeners: even though I am now a teacher, I never read this in HS or college. Even now it is a lot to take in and process. I want to hope that the events of the book wouldn't really happen but I am a born optimist. Sissy Spacek was great!

I don't understand why they make teenagers read this book, because I think one has to be an adult and lived a good portion of their life to really appreciate this book. To watch the innocence of youth yield to responsibility, leadership, and survival has GOT to be lost on a high school student! The book is a brilliant and stunning work that presents the idea that the biggest beast is within each of us. And how cool is it that the author himself reads it!
