Oh my gosh! LOVED this book. The story was so entertaining but what really made it perfect was the narrator. His British accent really brought the Major to life and even the other characters, females included, were excellent. It made my 40 minute ride to work so fun and I had a week off for vacation, and actually missed going to work, as I missed the characters so much!!
I don’t think I could have loved this story more. Wonderful story and characters, I hated to have it end.
A lovely story about families, silly traditions, prejudice, friendship and love, all set in a beautiful English village.
As I listened to this, I kept thinking "this seems familiar." Only when I went back and looked at my Goodreads list did I realize that I had read it, and hadn't liked it. So, this just proves that a good "reader" can make all the difference. The book starts slow, and it can be maddening in its stereotypes, but it builds to a nice conclusion.
Beautifully written and beautifully read! Very highly recommended!
What an unusual and delightful story about stodgy tradition, prjudice and the ability to be human and rise above backwards ways of seeing the world. This book just confirms that you can teach an old dog new tricks
