Summary
FBI agent Alex Cross is on vacation with his family at Disneyland when he gets a call from the Director. A well-known actress was shot outside her home in Beverly Hills. Shortly afterward, an editor for the Los Angeles Times receives an e-mail describing the murder in vivid detail. Alex quickly learns that this is not an isolated incident. The killer, known as Mary Smith, has done this before and plans to kill again. Right from the beginning, this case is like nothing Alex has ever confronted. Is this the plan of an obsessed fan or a spurned actor, or is it part of something much more frightening? And particularly baffling, how could a woman be capable of these vicious crimes? Members of Hollywood's A-list fear they're next on Mary's list, and the case grows by blockbuster proportions as the LAPD and FBI scramble to find a pattern before Mary can send one more chilling update. Filled with the ruthless and shocking twists that make his fans hunger for more, Mary, Mary is James Patterson's most sophisticated thriller yet.

It was very good and I like the psychological analysis off-the-wall killer. plus the balance between personal and professional lives however just wasn't the bad I was looking for.

By far my favorite of the Alex Cross series! The concept for this book is absolutely amazing! If you don’t believe me, go out and get it and read it yourself! This one so far takes the cake as my favorite book in the Alex Cross series!

As with all of the "Cross" Books, this one is good and will catch your interest. It took me a while onger than usual to get into it.

I really enjoyed this book. It took me awhile to figure out who the killer actually was. For me it kept me listening intently.

I enjoyed this book - my first for Alex Cross character. Enjoyed the personal side and the twist ending was just my cup of tea. Thank you - James.

Not Patterson's best. Very hum drum and slow. I give it a "C" at best.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the three individuals doing the reading. I just love the Alex Cross character. It was a perfect pace and you always knew who you were listing to. Highly recommend!

The book started very slow and picked up a bit in the middle. There is much better material out there than this. The only redeeming feature was that it was a rather short read (7 CDs).

I don't think there is anything that Patterson writes that I haven't loved.

I WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS BOOK. 80% WAS ABOUT ALEX'S HOME LIFE & HOME PROBLEMS. NOT IN KEEPING WITH HIS PAST STYLE. I HOPE HE LOOKS AT REVIEWS AND GOES BACK TO HIS PAST WRITTINGS. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS BOOK.

Expected more suspense from this book. James Patterson went overboard on the personal life of Alex Cross the main character and deviated too much from the main story line.

Brilliant story kept me listening from start to finish, he writes excellent murder mystery with usually a very good twist at the end.

Alex Cross in a more personal way than you have experienced him before. I thoroughly enjoyed the "getting to know" of a great fiction character. Reading about his kids in more detail, knowing "nana-mama" and even seeing his "loves" up close and little more personal. It felt like someone whispered in Patterson's ear that some of us were big Alex Cross fans and he gave us an indepth look. The mixed narration was a nice touch too, and of course with JP mthe story was good! GOOD STUFF!

This book had a suprise ending which is always fun with a mystery.

This was one of my first Patterson books and I loved it! It kept me guessing till the end. I usually like the romance novels, but now I can't wait to listen to more like this.

Loved the story's twists and twisted mind. This is my first Alex Cross book. I like him. He's human. It's a good read, but a bit horrific.

Good listen. I enjoyed it though it did not tend to pull me in as much as other books. Maybe it is because the main characters voice seems to take things so in stride...

As usual James Patterson is just fun reading...or listening. Mary, Mary is yet another one that was fun to listen to. It got me through 2 days of moving offices! I always want to know "who done it" and what is coming next.

I absolutely love books that keep me guessing until the end. This was one of those wonderful books that took me deep into the story and kept me trying to analyze all the players to figure it out before the end. It was very entertaining and I loved every minute of this book.

I have read quite a few of Patterson's books and found this one to be a disappointment for me. Too much information about his private life not enough on the story line.

I have listened to or read all of James Patterson's books. This one was very good except for all of the detail about Alex's personal life. Too much, way too much. I am interested in the plot and some background into who the character is as a man but I really don't care to have so much time taken up with his conversations with his children. It was also nice that we saw him as an investigator again and not as a target or a victim.

I love all of James Patterson's Alex Cross series. This one was even better then the last one I read. I can tell his (Alex's) future is headed for some big changes I can't wait to get the next one to see where it is going.

Thoroughly enjoyed this audio book. An entertaining Alex Cross "who dunnit," with a relatively predictable plot progession. The character development was an interesting blend of the police procedural and a peek into Alex Cross' domestic life. The readers were excellent and the voice change between the main protagonists was well staged.

Finally, an Alex Cross story in which the villain is not after Cross and/or family. There is enough angst in Cross' personal life to keep the reader interested. Interesting twist at the conclusion. Worth the time. Patterson never disappoints.

Kept the reader's interest and was a really good book.

This book was well read. It was interesting to have different voices for some of the characters. On the plus side, this book had a good storyline with plenty of thought-provoking intrigue. It will keep you guessing to the end. On the negative side, the main character's personal life was a little distracting and did not mesh with the story very well.

I loved this book! There were a lot of really good twists and turns to this storyline. It kept me in suspense and I didn't want to stop listening. One of my favorite Patterson books to date.

The plot was fantastic and kept me in suspense for the entire storyline. I was bored by the personal storyline of Alex Cross that was weaved throughout and felt that it detracted from the actual drama unraveling.

This is classic Alex Cross and fans of Patterson will enjoy this one for all the same reasons they picked up his books in the past. I thought the concept was interesting but it there was not a whole lot of suspense or surprises, especially at the conclusion. All the same, here is great, consistantly enjoyable character and the action moves well.

I loved Mary Mary. It kept me turning pages. One of his better stories, especially lately. Defnitely recommend this!

A short but good entertainment. Very interesting and unpredictable at times and a good mix of Alex Cross's personal life too.

This is my first James Patterson novel and will likely be my last. I did not get past the first 45 minutes; the writing was stilted and the reading contrived. Having just finished The Camel Club, Fall on Your Knees, and Year of Wonders, I could not bear the mediocrity of Mary, Mary. If I could have given it zero stars I would have.

Predictable story line with predictable characters. Okay read if you’re looking for an easy-to-digest storyline on a maniacal killer. The Alex Cross narrator was slow and boring.

While I had actually read this book, I found the audio to be just as good as the book. I love James Patterson's Alex Cross character, his family. In Mary, Mary, Mr. Patterson again proves that no one, not even the Hollywood elite are safe from this worlds sick, immoral predators. Mary, Mary kept me on the edge of my seat, waiting for what would happen next and who would be the next victim. Very interesting ending.

I've been catching up on James Patterson's works as of late, and frankly, have been increasingly disappointed in his rehashing of tired story lines. Returning to Alex Cross stories with Mary, Mary was indeed a breath of fresh air. I love this series, and Mary, Mary didn't disappoint. Unlike other reviewers, I did actually like the narration job in this story. Narration *makes* the story. If the narration is bad, I can't finish the book, no matter how good it is.

Good book but at times seemed to be the same story with different characters. It's odd that Alex Cross would consider himself a better parent than his ex, Christine, who is a school teacher rasing the baby in a safe environment, while Alex Cross leaves his kids at home for his grandma to raise. This storyline frustrated me.

One of the best James Patterson novels ever. The unabridged version is the best.

I'm one of Patterson's biggest fans, but this one was disappointing. Found the story totally predictable and found the reader to be a terrible mismatch for the Alex Cross I've come to know and love.

There is only one thing wrong with any of James Patterson's Alex Cross novels is that they have to end and then I have to wait for the next one. Everything about this presentation is wonderful. The reader's voice is familar already and a favorite. Alex and his family are people you tend to care about, I don't want to let the cat out of the bag so I won't say too much more about the Cross's. The story 'Mary Mary' was excellent. Lots of murders in this one and some good twists and turns. Fellow club members: you won't be disappointed.
