Summary
From Ann Cleeves comes The Moth Catcher, the latest audiobook in the Vera Stanhope mystery series, the inspiration behind the hit TV series, Vera.

Life seems perfect in the quiet community of Valley Farm. Then a shocking discovery shatters the silence. The owners of a big country house have employed a house-sitter, a young ecologist, to look after the place while they’re away. But his dead body is found by the side of the lane—a lonely place to die.

When DI Vera Stanhope arrives on the scene, she finds the body of a second man. What the two victims seem to have in common is a fascination with studying moths—and with catching these beautiful, intriguing creatures.

The others who live in Valley Farm have secrets too: Lorraine’s calm demeanor belies a more complex personality; Annie and Sam’s daughter, Lizzie, is due to be released from prison; and Nigel watches, silently, every day, from his window. As Vera is drawn into the claustrophobic world of this increasingly strange community, she realizes that there may be many deadly secrets trapped there . . .

This was the second to last book in the Stanhope series I've been reading during Covid; love every single one of them, but the Moth Catcher somehow grasped me even more, I listened to it and got through it it no time. The narrator is great, except I find that she makes Joe A. sound a little dim, that's my only criticism. I love every story that Ann Cleeves writes and she is my absolute favorite. 10 yrs ago I read the Shetland books, now I want to listen to them after I finish "The darkest evening". The sensitive character observations, the landscapes and pictures she paints with words, delicious!!!!!

An outstanding story. Above all, Ann Cleeves is a storyteller. Great characters that hold your interest along with the nagging mystery. We've listened to two books by Ann Cleeves both narrated by different women and they're both excellent readers. Highly recommended.

It was a very enjoyable book. I liked the narration too so I am giving a five star rating for both. I thought the characters were very well-developed and it kept me guessing until the end.
