Unabridged Audiobook
Fascinating subject matter, fascinating man. A real dose of reality and an insight into human spirit and what we are All capable of. It’s my first ever audio book so I don’t know what to judge it against... but it was off putting that the narrator kept stumbling over words and seemed uncomfortable with the slightly archaic language style which killed the flow for me... and I couldn’t connect her to the protagonist of such a specific experience narrated in first person. Good book though
The book is deeply moving and incredibly eye-opening. Everyone in America and perhaps the world should spend the four hours to listen to this book. I would not purchase this recording by Jeanette Ferguson again, however, because she is a volunteer reader unlike all the smooth professional readers you are used to.
Nope. Can’t listen to that.
This book is really an eye opener I would encourage people to read and listen to this book and learn
Really disrespectful to have this read with an awful white lady voice.
I very much enjoyed the book and believe it is important to keep our eyes open to the atrocities that happened. However the narrator spoiled the book with poor flow and narration.
OMG I am glad I “read” this narrative. A clearer picture of slavery I have never heard. Thank you Mr. Douglass
Excellent read and extremely insightful.
Excellent listening! good tone
I listened to this book while on my daily walk and could not wait for my next walk to hear what happened next. Of particular interest was his discussion of how christian slave holders could find biblical passages to justify their actions. Makes one contemplate on if we were living in that time, where would we stand on the issue of slavery.
Very interesting.
Loved it excellent historical non fiction
LibriVox narrators make it like work to press on. Will need to find another source to listen to.
Narrator destroys the story
Very informative and increased my admiration for the man and the trials of the African American
I saw all the reviews saying "nope cant deal with that voice" and i thought "oh how bad could it be?" It's real bad. She's in the wrong line of work for real
This narration is disrespectful to Frederick Douglass.
Horrible narration
This book was amazing, I truly enjoyed listening to this thoughtful story, I believe this book would be perfect for a book club decision, I found myself recommending this book to family and friends, I wanted to Thank the narrators for their time and effort.
Listening to the reading of this book is painful. The book itself is an excellent read with colorful words to describe the perspective of the writer.
I loved this book! However, the narrator did not portray the emphasis on the portrayal of this book! I do see how this can somehow still be correlated in todays bondage/slavery in the African American community.
Amazing story. To have accomplished so much during such a horrible time is AMAZING.
