Summary
From the two-time Booker Prize finalist author, a dazzlingly written novel exploring memory, grief, and long-buried secrets

Retired policeman Tom Kettle is enjoying the quiet of his new home, a lean-to annexed to a white Victorian Castle in Dalkey overlooking the sea. For months he has barely seen a soul, but his peace is interrupted when two former colleagues turn up at his door to ask questions about a decades-old case. A traumatic case which Tom never quite came to terms with.

His peace is further disturbed by a young mother and family who move in next door, a woman on the run from her own troubles. And what of Tom’s family, his wife June, and their two children?

Old God’s Time is a beautiful, haunting novel in which everything is not quite what it seems—a novel about what we live through, what we live with, and what may survive us.

It took much of the book to get to the substance. It seemed to be written with the structure of how the character’s mind worked, dementia and all. While I can appreciate seeing things from alternative perspectives, it detracted from the mystery significantly

Made it to track 7. Good narrator But it rambles on about nothing, no direction or point.

Great mystery, with a little meaning for us historical fiction buffs! Narrator added to the listening pleasure. You do, however, need to pay attention — or liberally use your 30 second repeat! Highly recommended.

The story compelled me to keep listening even when I felt disturbed. The author brings his main character to life as the story unfolds as told through the thoughts of the character. I would have rated more stars for excellent story telling but the content was darker than I anticipated and that biases my opinion of the novel. The author made the character come to life, excellent job.

The first two-thirds of the book was pretty slow. It seemed to drag on to me.
