Unabridged Audiobook
Frustratingly imperfect in its execution but an interesting premise, involving murder and arson and an intellectual duel between forensic scientists whose opinions, right or wrong, sway their juries. I won’t give away the ending but I had a hard time believing a lawyer could get away with so much “testifying” instead of questioning his witness without reprimands; it impacts the outcome. I appreciate the focus on Miriam’s past, including a failed romance come back to haunt her, but I am hugely skeptical that any woman of good society could retain her reputation and be accepted after her private indiscretion is made public in 1910 London. Historically unconvincing but something about this series keeps me hanging on. I really like the main character, Daniel Pitt, and his colleagues at the law firm.
