Summary
In this follow-up novel to the bestselling Ten Tiny Breaths, Livie Cleary faces a new set of challenges as she navigates freshman year at Princeton, wild parties, and the gorgeous rowing team captain who is everything she doesn’t want in a guy—or so she thinks…

“Make me proud.” These were the last words Livie’s father ever spoke to her. In the seven years since her parents’ tragic death, Livie has done her best to live up to this standard through her every choice, word, and action, while looking after her sister with strength and maturity. But with college right around the corner, unexpected challenges will test her resilience—and her heart.

Livie walks into Princeton with a solid plan, and she’s dead set on delivering on it: Rock her classes; set herself up for medical school; and meet a good, respectable guy to someday marry. Her plan definitely does not include Jell-O shots; a lovable, party animal roommate she can’t say “no” to; or Ashton, the arrogant—and extremely attractive—captain of the men’s rowing team who makes Livie’s usually nonexistent temper flare. Worse, he’s best friends and roommates with Connor, who happens to fit Livie’s criteria perfectly. So why does she keep thinking about Ashton?

As Livie finds herself facing mediocre grades, career aspirations she no longer thinks she can handle, and feelings for Ashton that she shouldn’t have, she’s forced to let go of her last promise to her father, and, with it, the only identity she’s ever known.

I know it looks like I’m giving this book a 5 star rating, but truthfully it’s so much more than that. Unfortunately, Amazon and Goodreads only allows for 5. If I could, I’d give One Tiny Lie 5 more! I was a little nervous going into this book. Ten Tiny Breaths was so good for me and I hate having a first book in a series touch me so much, only to have the second fall flat. Well, I am so happy to say this book did not fall flat. In fact, I loved it even more than the first. What a wonderful surprise. K.A. Tucker is a new favorite author for me, and these books are going onto my favorite’s shelf, possibly even ahead of the rest. What did I love about One Tiny Lie—everything. I laughed, I cried, and basically went through the whole gamut of emotions. This series literally has the most f&*cked up characters ever, but also the best. Absolutely amazing character development. When I read Ten Tiny Breaths I thought Livvie had her crap together, that Kasey was the messed up one. Goes to show you some people are just better at hiding it. Livvie had just as many issues as Kasey, and no one noticed—except for Kasey. It took her getting herself straightened around to recognize her sister needed help. Badly. And I absolutely loved Livvie’s therapy. I think my favorite character in this book was Dr Staynor. He is fantastic and I’m in love.Seriously, can we get a book from him? I love his unorthodox treatments: “What kind of psychiatrist masterminds his patient getting blitzed to the point of tattoos and random make-out sessions?” “The completely unorthodox and therefore brilliant kind?” Oh, and I love that Staynor says it like it is, even if it is the exact opposite of what a psychiatrist should say: “Even though I finally cracked?” I smile sadly, repeating Kacey’s words. He starts chuckling. “You didn’t, Livie. I’d like to say that you finally came to a crossroad and just needed some guidance. You’re a smart cookie who seems to figure things out. That’s all you need sometimes—a little bit of guidance. Not like your sister. Now, she cracked.” He turns to mouth “wow,” and I can’t help the snort of laughter that escapes me. The man is fantastic. I don’t want to keep gushing or my review will have the same word count as the novel, but I have to give a mention to Ashton as well. LOVE him. He’s the most screwed up of them all and I love how the revelations come slowly and we’re left wondering. And, oh my god is he sexy! This book isn’t really high on the steam factor—if it was a movie I’d say 14A—but it’s high on the sexual tension factor. Wow. Okay, I’ve got to cut off the gushing now, this is getting ridiculous. All I can say is READ IT. It’s an amazing book—but read Ten Tiny Breaths first. I think these books are perfect for anyone who loves Colleen Hoover.
