Summary
After you've sold your soul to the devil, can you renegotiate with a dog?

Brilliant defense attorney, Finn Morgenstern, knows the worst guys pay best, so defending slimeball, Rance Franklin, becomes his path to senior partner and a whole lot of benefits. But then a walk home to his pricey townhouse brings him face-to-ears with a batshit-crazy little dog who just won't leave him alone. So Finn takes the dog to the local veterinarian to find out how to get her back to her owners.

Hello vet! Emerson 'Em' Fairweather sure doesn't match his stodgy name. Tall, platinum blond, and gorgeous, Em puts the pet in pet ownership. But Em has ugly secrets and Batshit dog is up to her ears in larceny. Suddenly Finn is the one who needs defending, and he's faced with a choice between what he thought was important and a whole new batshit-crazy life.

I absolutely loved this audiobook, and the lengths two men go for the love of a dog and each either. Rather than being all traumatic and angst-ridden, this book is full of humor and laughs, and not just because of the dog. I loved the characters and especially the way Finn changed from being a stuffed shirt worried about belongings and stuff to appreciating the companionship of a dog and loving someone else more than himself. This was truly a wonderful, fun story. I love the narrator Kale Williams. He really made the characters come alive and he showed a great vocal range. I received a fee copy of this audiobook and am voluntarily leaving this honest review.

Passions of a Butterfly MMy Thoughts and Review: MMy first exposure to Tara Lain's writing was over the 2019 Holiday Season when I took part in reviewing ARCs for an Advent Series of shorts done by several talented authors. Lain's writing style is so light and lyrical even when dealing with "baddies" or when an emotional or intense crisis pops up. Because of Lain's compassionate and whimsical writing style, much of the angst is removed or suppressed so the reader is left with having their emotions evoked in a more light-hearted sense. In The Passions of a Papillon, the love and devotion of one little girl with enormous ears to bring two guys together are enough to warm your heart and make you smile. The antics this little girl pulls off to ensure her "daddies" stick around until they figure out they are made for each other are cute and adorable. Passions is filled with a fully fleshed cast of characters, both human and non-human. The two MCs, Finn and Em had excellent on-page chemistry and were characters you cheered on and could see yourself being friends with in real life. As for their little girl, she was the toast of the town and had the precise amount of personality and precociousness to steal the show. **I owned a papillon about 25 years ago. Her name was Tatianna and everywhere we went people would stop what they were doing to pet and talk to her. She was loved and adored everywhere we went, much like Bat from this story. This is a light and whimsical romance audiobook from a wonderful author, narrated by the amazingly talented Kale Williams. So if you need a good escape, look no further, this is a true delight. The Story: 4.00

Passions of a Papillon by Tara Lain is a contemporary m/m romance. This well written and entertaining story is filled with suspense, action, humor and sweetness. The characters are great in this fun tale and I fully enjoyed getting to know their story. Narrator is Kale Williams who does a good job. The recording is clear and smooth and the voicework entertains and is easy to fall into.

Finn is just your average criminal defense lawyer making big bucks by defending rich scumbags. He doesn’t particularly like his job, but he’s not ashamed of it and enjoys the money it brings in. Besides his mother’s nagging, life is going pretty good for Finn – he’s representing a major client and is on track to being the youngest senior partner in his law firm. Everything is going to plan until a fluffy ball of love and mischief yips into his life. With this unexpected development, Finn learns what all dog parents know – there’s nothing you won’t do for your pup. With the help of Emerson, the gorgeous veterinarian with secrets of his own, Finn soon reevaluates what he wants out of his life and the lengths he’ll go to achieve his new vision of the future. I had so much fun with this book. It was a wonderful mixture of romance, fluff, cozy mystery, and lowkey thriller, but without a lot of the cringe factors I usually find in cozy mysterious and thrillers. Finn and Em never pretend to be super sleuths or vigilantes. They are concerned dog parents who want to protect their baby – which I completely relate to. And their baby – a cute, fluffy papillon named Batsh*t who is part cupid, part escape artist, and all love and adorableness – quickly earned a place in my heart with all her antics. Tara Lain did a really good job with developing her characters. Their actions and motivations made sense throughout the book and stayed consistent with their development and growth. Plus, I have never liked a criminal defense lawyer more than I have Finn Morgenstern. And oh my goodness, the chemistry between Finn and Em was intense and hot – I need my romances to have good and delicious chemistry and I was not disappointed. I listened to the audiobook that was narrated by Kale Williams and I was impressed by the quality of the production. Kale does such a wonderful job with all the character voices – they are consistent and I had an easy time differentiating between each character. I go running and hiking when I listen to audiobooks, so I need my audio performances to not only be a pleasant listen, but to completely enthrall me and pull me into the story. Kale did not let me down and I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent with this story. Overall, I highly recommend this book for people who are looking for a fluffy romance that isn’t sickeningly sweet, especially if they like their romance with a little bite and thrill. These men make no apologies for who they are, they know what consequences their actions have, and I found that extremely refreshing. There’s humor, hot sex, a cute dog, and a happy ever after – all the ingredients for a fun time.
