Summary:

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Experience the book that started the quiet revolution

“A smart, lively book about the value of silence and solitude.”—Daniel Gilbert, author of Stumbling on Happiness

NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY People • O: The Oprah Magazine • Christian Science Monitor • Inc. • Library Journal • Kirkus Reviews

At least one-third of the people we know are introverts. They are the ones who prefer listening to speaking; who innovate and create but dislike self-promotion; who favor working on their own over working in teams. It is to introverts—Rosa Parks, Chopin, Dr. Seuss, Steve Wozniak—that we owe many of the great contributions to society.

In Quiet, Susan Cain argues that we dramatically undervalue introverts and shows how much we lose in doing so. She charts the rise of the Extrovert Ideal throughout the twentieth century and explores how deeply it has come to permeate our culture. She also introduces us to successful introverts—from a witty, high-octane public speaker who recharges in solitude after his talks, to a record-breaking salesman who quietly taps into the power of questions. Passionately argued, superbly researched, and filled with indelible stories of real people, Quiet has the power to permanently change how we see introverts and, equally important, how they see themselves.

Book gives an excellent overview of the topics of shyness, introversion, social anxiety, etc. and how they interact in a world with expectations that don’t work for quiet people. Scientific basis for phenomena are well-researched and presented in a way that is both informative and entertaining.

i liked the narrator. I felt her gentle tones was a perfect complement to the content. The message was clear, that we live in a world of extroverts, yet introverts have their own unique styles that are needed as well. Thank you for validating the introvert.

Susan Cain defies stereotypes of personalities with this book! She expands Introverts self - concept by explaining how we can be shy & timid, but also have the courage of a Lion. "Quiet Strength" Cain explains that 1/3 - 1/2 of ALL PEOPLE ARE INTROVERTS and supports her theories with facts and supporting personality complexity!

Interesting. I plan on listening to this book again as it was detailed and insightful.

I like the book but the narrator is so awful she is painful to listen to. Her voice is hard to hear and everything she says sounds the same, without intonation. The book was so good I battled through the terrible narration though.

  • Ben Dirk

Some audiobooks can be very interesting subjects but hard to get absorbed in.. There was no issue with that here, partly due to the great narration. Recommend!

  • LaMarr Anderson

Interesting and reflective informational. Well worth reading and understanding,

  • Jamie Miller

What an interesting way to look and work with people I learned a lot about myself
