Summary
Buster 'Rant' Casey just may be the most efficient serial killer of our time. A high school rebel, Rant Casey escapes from his small town home for the big city where he becomes the leader of an urban demolition derby called Party Crashing. Rant Casey will die a spectacular highway death, after which his friends gather the testimony needed to build an oral history of his short, violent life. With hilarity, horror, and blazing insight, Rant is a mind-bending vision of the future, as only Chuck Palahniuk could ever imagine.

I first read this book myself, then later listened to the audiobook. I loved having a huge cast of voice actors narrate each character because it really brought the story to life and helped me envision the characters/story more fully.

Well I like it … but it all seemed like a shapeless rant ;) … all the way thru hour 7 … then I finally got into it … and the book made sense… gonna go at it again and I’m sure I’ll like it even more …

I’ve read this multiple multiple times, however, this is my first listen of the audiobook. The book itself is amazing. The audiobook is entertaining and I’m thoroughly enjoying it. The casting, on the other hand, could have been a little bit better. This audiobook is read by many narrators, as there are many points of view. My gripe is, instead of casting someone who “sounded like a sherif” or whatever, they casted someone who could make their voice sound like a cartoon sherif. There are tons of great VO actors out there but they seemingly just cast some of the roles too hastily. Still worth getting don’t get me wrong, I was just a little let down by the casting choices.

This book absolutely reeled me in. I loved putting the story together one little snippet at a time from all the narrators. Which I very much liked - it really helped animate them and their bs. I just couldn't wait for the big reveal!! Of course, it turned out to be really, really weird. But hey...it is Palahniuk, after all! At first, after immediately finishing it, I was like 'what the ...", but after a few days of mulling it over, I chuckled over it's off-the-wall-ness. I had to ask myself, "what did you expect from Chuck?!" Totally recommend unless you're looking for a linear, no-nonsense, sound and rational read, then you'll hate this. But then again, if that's what you're after, you're probably not into this author, anyway!
