Unabridged Audiobook
Generally an interesting memoir…
Excellent book
It was a great history lesson for me.
I’m a life long Democrat but this was a great book. I wish everyone would read it!
Listen to this and then go listen to Hillary Clinton's book. Senator McCain takes full responsibility for everything that occurred during his run for presidency. Rather, Hillary blames everyone and everything for her failure. I never cared much for McCain but I have a lot more respect for him after listening to this book.
I have heard so much negativity about John McCain lately, especially from those who support Trump. Evidently, to be a moderate and work with those on the other side of the aisle in congress for the good of the country rather than party, is now thought by many to be close to treason. What comes through loud and clear in this book is the character and honor that McCain has. While the middle of the book is a bit of a slow listen, due to the intricate names and anecdotes about the world leaders McCain worked closely with, it is a powerful lesson in one man's humility and assessment of his time in the U.S. senate and also running for president. He knows he isn't perfect, but that's what makes him a real person, not just another blow-hard politician. He truly cares about this country, the institutions that make up our democratic republic, and its people. Beau Bridges does an outstanding job narrating the book. This was a great listen, if you care to learn what McCain is really all about.
