Unabridged Audiobook
Enjoyed the heck out of this book ... I specially liked the characters individual inner and emotional struggles , and how they faired with one another. the ending was unexpected and awesome. Sure hope we get more of Adam Neville title's soon
Brilliant, exhausting and the second half veers interestingly away from the story only the movie watchers will know. It's own unique horror in the forest. Prepare to feel drained.
I love this book, which is saying something for someone like me. If you like lovecraftian type horror, existential horror, or horror that points out how insignificant we are in the universe, this book is for you. I actually read it myself and got the audiobook because I liked it so much. In regards to some of the other reviews, a lot of people found that they liked the first part but not the second and that is valid because they are very different. in my opinion, they flow together very well, there is just a change of setting and some additional themes on human nature are added. Some people just want that lost in the woods feeling. Also, there is absolutely nothing misogynistic about this book (I am a woman btw). There are very few characters to begin with and the first part centers on 4 male friends with no additional characters. the second part has one female character who is negative but it says nothing about women in general. In fact, there are mentions to other characters that are females and positive.
The Ritual is definitely one of my most favourite movies! I just loved the concept! I was looking for something to read and thought maybe I should read the book too. I was surprised just how much further the book goes from the movie. I know that movies always tend to slaughter the book but I was pleasantly surprised that they’re both similar up to the point of Luke being “rescued”. That’s all I’m going to say so I don’t spoil it!! I would recommend this read for sure!!
if you want a good, old-fashioned lost in the woods story, just read book 1. seriously, don't waste your time with book 2. overall, this is not a great horror novel, but at least there are some mild scares in the first half. book 2 is just boring. Around about hour 8 I found myself praying to the old gods as well - to please end the book just let the book end. this book is also misogynistic. but I'm not even going to go into the way the female characters are portrayed and discussed (ALL of them, even the absent wives) because this book isn't worth it.
Could not stop listening, narrator was brilliant. Highly recommend.
Fantastically creepy and enthralling story, made even better by the brilliant narration. I felt like I was actually there in the story with the main character, feeling everything that he did! I would highly recommend this dark and super interesting story.
Creep from start to finish. Written with such detail I was able to mentally place myself in the story. Kept me in total suspense the whole time.
Reminded me of Steven King but I was pleasantly surprised at the plot twist in the middle that made the book much more interesting. I like Stephen King but I think his endings are a little lame. Mr. Neville does a much better job of having a great beginning middle and end. Though I would have liked to have known what happened next.
