Summary
ECPA BESTSELLER • A compelling emotional and spiritual case against hurry and in favor of a slower, simpler way of life—from the New York Times bestselling author of Practicing the Way

“Prophetic, practical, and profoundly life giving . . . provides a way forward that creates hope, hunger, and a vision of a beautiful life. I consider this required reading.”—Jon Tyson, lead pastor of the Church of the City New York and author of Beautiful Resistance

“Who am I becoming?”

That was the question nagging pastor and author John Mark Comer. Outwardly, he appeared successful. But inwardly, things weren’t pretty. So he turned to a trusted mentor for guidance and heard these words:

“Ruthlessly eliminate hurry from your life. Hurry is the great enemy of the spiritual life.”

It wasn’t the response he expected, but it was—and continues to be—the answer he needs. Too often we treat the symptoms of toxicity in our modern world instead of trying to pinpoint the cause. A growing number of voices are pointing at hurry, or busyness, as a root of much evil.

A perfect gift for Mother’s Day that inspires readers to soak in the goodness of each day, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry is a fascinating roadmap to staying emotionally healthy and spiritually alive in the chaos of the modern world.

This book is a journey to say the absolute least. Talk about foundation-shaking. This was the spiritual closet-cleaning that my soul NEEDED. John Mark Comer is brilliant. For any followers of Jesus that feel the hustle and grind of the day to day is choking you into submission, read this book. Scrap that, ANYBODY who feels that kind of pressure should read this. Some of the stats in here are alarming and need to be made known. If you aren’t a Christian, you will benefit from this book AND you might find Jesus. Everyone needs to read this and just slowwwwwwww wayyyyyyy downnnnnn.

Short but insightful. I listened to it twice and found much of it beneficial. I am type A so yes, I need help slowing down.

Truly life changing principles and guidance. I have never been hooked on a book like I was on this one. Will be coming back to this book every few years for a reminder and refresher.

This book gave me the inspiration I need to better put my relationship with God first. It is written from a Christian perspective without being exclusive to that theology, and applies to anyone wishing to get their priorities in order, and not in a judgmental or preachy kind of way. John Mark Comer understands real life and approaches everything in an encouraging and positive style. He goes deep because he's thought it well through, and what he has to say is enlightening.

Overall book is fine. Basic ideas that need to be remembered. 2 stars because of a lack of historical accuracy and 1-sided propaganda. The author shares opinion like it is truth and unfortunately shows a lack of integrity in his writing.
