Unabridged Audiobook
I listened to this whole series… only because I paid for it up front. It started out okay, but honestly the series should have been maybe two books instead of this whole series. A third of each book is just repetitive detail. It gets boring hearing the same thing over and over. Don’t get me started on Ivy, the main character. I think I get what the author is going for… strong, independent woman trying to find herself who won’t compromise morals, blah, blah, blah. I read because I want an escape. There is NO HUMOR in this book at all, no light heartedness. Ivy comes across as a scorned, angry woman who is always looking for the worst, always on the offense, always stubborn. She is SO UPTIGHT and I can’t think of a man I know who would put up with her. I’d like to shake her. I love Dorothea Benton Frank, Mary Alice Monroe, Mary Kay Andrews, Kathleen Harvey Goodson, Elin Hilderbrand. Their books have a bit of humor, a bit of mystery sprinkled in along with some romance. Would it kill this author to describe a little bit if romance? I was just looking for something other than what I got. I read another Jan Moran book and it was the same way dull, uptight, boring. You can have a little bit of fun without being raunchy. It was just disappointing and the further I got into the series, the worse it got. I finished the last book on fast forward. When we got to Ivy having to fight for the Inn AGAIN and the “commitment ceremony,” but no marriage and the whole you live in your room; I’ll live in mine thing… I just checked out. Come on!!!!! I gave it a two, but it really doesn’t deserve it.
