Summary
This is a story of the English moneyed class and its eternal struggle for creating "sense and sensibility" in its world. A potential marriage prospect must make "sense" by bringing with it enough assets and income to permit the couple to continue to live in happy, idle leisure, complete with servants and a prestigious address. Provided one can find such a match among the eligible persons of the opposite sex, one then hopes for "sensibility", or capacity for emotion, so that if love is not immediately to hand, it might come around later. And while these gentlemen and ladies make their hopeful pirouettes in the social eye, they must of course adhere to all the forms of civility.

Jane Austen writes of the family of a gentleman named Dashwood who dies and leaves most of his fortune to his son, with the understanding that he will "look out for" his mother and three sisters. When that son marries a grasping woman who convinces him that his sisters' funds are suitable to their needs and so require no contributions from his inherited fortune, the sisters are left to play the game of "Sense and Sensibility" in earnest.

But all's not fair in love. Carefully prepared "attachments" can and do go awry when gentlemen find other young women of greater fortunes than the Dashwood sisters. So, will they marry for love? Or money? Or perhaps, not at all?

Of course any Jane Austen book is engaging and well-written. This narrator adds a lot, though. Her pronunciation and voicing are very polished, enabling the listener to fully immerse into the story.

Author rushed theu the ending Narrative was good

I enjoyed the story of Pride and Prejudice - and enjoyed the narration to a point. The reader spoke so fast that many sentences I could not even understand. I feel like I have a lot of gaps in the story because of how fast the narrator spoke and how hard she was to understand because of it.

Great read

As always Austen is amazing. I thought the narrator’s voice was good, clear and expressive. At times a little fast but I just went back 30 seconds and only needed to do so a dozen times over the whole book.

I enjoyed the book and thought the narrator did a wonderful job.

The reader for this book was quite excellent. The story itself is one of Jane Austen's best. The only complaint is that there is some flaw in the recording and places where the readers voice is garbled. However, this was just a minor annoyance and it was not in a lot of areas.

While not as good as Pride and Prejudice it is still a wonderful read. The Narrator is fantastic.

I very much enjoyed this old classic. After some disappointing contemporary novels, this was a breath of fresh air and certainly a challenge to follow the language used back in the day. The narrator was clear and easy to follow.

The narrator has a mellifluous voice. The novel is read with great clarity. Delightful.

One of my go to books when you want that feel good feeling

I believe the narrator who did a phenomenal job is Karen Savage and not as mentioned above! The story is somewhat cheesy, yet enjoyable and engaging:)

Wondeful insightful reading. I am forever astonished how women had such little say over their lives back then. Marriage and dependency was primary. Oh how we have evolved.

I agree that the reader for this book was excellent. (It was not Mark Smith as noted). It is a wonderful story. Having seen the movie, I had Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman in mind as the characters during the absolutely beautiful narration of the classic read!
