Summary
Six years have passed since Jake Fisher watched Natalie, the love of his life, marry another man. Six years of hiding a broken heart by throwing himself into his career as a college professor. Six years of keeping his promise to leave Natalie alone, and six years of tortured dreams of her life with her new husband, Todd. But six years haven’t come close to extinguishing his feelings, and when Jake comes across Todd’s obituary, he can’t keep himself away from the funeral. There he gets the glimpse of Todd’s wife he’s hoping for…but she is not Natalie. Whoever the mourning widow is, she’s been married to Todd for almost two decades, and with that fact, everything Jake thought he knew about the best time of his life—a time he has never gotten over—is turned completely inside out.As Jake searches for the truth, his picture-perfect memories of Natalie begin to unravel. Mutual friends of the couple either can’t be found or don’t remember Jake. No one has seen Natalie in years. Jake’s search for the woman who broke his heart, who lied to him, soon puts his very life at risk as it dawns on him that the man he has become may be based on a carefully constructed fiction.Harlan Coben once again delivers a shocking novel that deftly explores the power of past love and the secrets and lies that such love can hide.

I've not listened to many audio books, but this was probably the weirdest and dullest of them all! I persevered only as I'm a huge Harlan Coben fan and I was on a 20hr road trip (I find listening to a story better than listening to music when driving all night!) It was bizarre how the narrator altered tone / accent only slightly to voice other characters, but the dull tone of the narrator for the vast majority of the reading was really the killer blow. The story itself was enjoyable, but I wish I'd read the book myself, albeit impossible whilst driving!

Too many repetitive lines and thoughts. Narrator was too monotone. I hate starting a book and not finishing, so I did listen to the whole book. Figured out the ending way too early.

Worst Harlan book I've ever read/listened too. Boring story. Predictable. The reader sounds nostalgic the whole time. And just plain miserable. Worst story I've listened to in a long time.

Didn't want to believe the reviews but wow, this was so hard to get through. I even fast forwarded through some of it. Main character is overly obsessed for a 3 month courtship. Too much introspection and too much male whining. The whining is unbearable.

The narrator was wildly annoying I’m such a fan of the author but the plot of this one was weak and annoying I actually hated it! I’m sad. I sooo wanted it to be awesome. Overly explaining simple plots and overly dramatic narration.

I really enjoyed the story, but the narrator was too "weak" for me. I'm not sure I would listen to another read by him.

I loved this one. I drive a truck so I need good stories but this was so good I relistened to it instead of other new ones I had. The time and miles just flew bylNJ

Loved this book - full of intrigue and keep me guessing. Harlan Coben always has great characters - charming, witty and amusing, which is great because they are generally violent - so the mix is great. Highly recommend this book.

This is one of the few books that grabs you from the opening chapter and doesn't let go. It's filled with surprises, plot twists, and suspense.
