Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • “A big sweeping novel of friendship and marriage” (The Washington Post) by the celebrated author of The Prince of Tides and The Great Santini

Leopold Bloom King has been raised in a family shattered—and shadowed—by tragedy. Lonely and adrift, he searches for something to sustain him and finds it among a tightly knit group of outsiders. Surviving marriages happy and troubled, unrequited loves and unspoken longings, hard-won successes and devastating breakdowns, as well as Charleston, South Carolina’s dark legacy of racism and class divisions, these friends will endure until a final test forces them to face something none of them are prepared for.

Spanning two turbulent decades, South of Broad is Pat Conroy at his finest: a masterpiece from a great American writer whose passion for life and language knows no bounds.

I loved this book. I listened to it as driving down the highway and it made time fly. Each character was unique and parts made me cry others made me laugh out loud. I love the flowery discriptions for everything. Not the often heard comparisons. So fun and they painted a lovely picture! Enjoyed the narrator as well. Hated for it to end.

I loved this book. The author is so discriptive I got immersed in the story. Every character came to life and I felt like I had known them. I love long stories with detail. Some books I just race through to get to the end. I guess they call those page turners. I want to enter each page and feel like you are right there. Only one complaint. I used to live in SF and the reporters name is pronounced Herb "Kain" not Kann. Even though it's spelled Cain. LOL If you want a good southern story with lots of twists and turns and wonderful character development, read "South of Broad".

I loved part 1, then it all fell apart for me. A lot of exposition and drama with no build up or reason, and flimsy characters

There was so much tragedy in so many of the characters in this book, it was hard to keep track of or figure out who had the saddest story.
