Summary
With the unexpected death of a beloved former first lady, the nation falls into mourning as the world's most powerful people gather in New York for her funeral. Then the inconceivable occurs. Billionaires, politicians, and superstars of every kind are suddenly trapped by one man's brilliant and ruthless scenario.

NOW MEET DETECTIVE MICHAEL BENNETT, NYPD
Pulled into the fray, Detective Michael Bennett-father of ten-faces the most sinister challenge of his career: a criminal who kills without hesitation and counters everything the NYPD and FBI throw at him with impunity. As New York descends into chaos, Bennett learns that the great love of his life, his wife, is battling a terrible disease and he may have to raise their children alone. Now with the entire world watching and the tension reaching a boiling point, Bennett must quickly find a way out-or become responsible for the greatest debacle in history.

From the #1 bestselling author who introduced readers to Alex Cross and the Women's Murder Club comes the beginning of a brand-new, electrifying series from "one of the bestselling writers in history" (New York Sun). STEP ON A CRACK is James Patterson's most fiendishly terrifying thriller yet.

I enjoy this series, it is a little deeper than some of the ghost writer series that JP puts his name on.

A great piece of entertainment well written and well presented. Refreshing to hear a new person has joined the fold. Hope to hear more about Bennett in the future. Good twist on his family with his ten kids. crazy grandfather and and delightful new nanny. Better than hearing Cross whine about his.

Full of plot holes, cliches, and stereotypes.. Oh and I really enjoyed the several comments about how the criminals were not terrorists because they were white (sarcasm). I think Mr. Patterson needs to pick up a dictionary and look up the word terrorist. The narration was ok, I could have done without the background music.

This was a very interesting book - and the narration was spectacular!!! Very enjoyable. I listened to this at work and didn't want to get up to go to lunch or take breaks!

I enjoyed this story. I thought the right amount of attention was put into getting to know the main character and his life. You were shown his vunerable side, and his tough side. It was a good story and I look forward to the rest of the books in the series. I would recommend it.

I've read James Patterson for YEARS, and enjoy Alex Cross more than I can even describe, but hate his books that are co-authored; however, I thought I'd give this one a try, but didn't even finish it. Did not like the plot, the ridiculous ten kid family and could not abide listening to the reader.

Very unbelievable character. A police officer with 10 kids? The plot of the crime story was good. The narration was very good. But the backstory was horrible! Anyone with kids will tell you this story is ridiculous. It was completely unnecessary for Patterson to add this element to the book and in my opinion ruined it.

I don't know if this is "back to" the good James Patterson . . . Or maybe it is just back to the real James Patterson . . . Or maybe it isn't back at all and this is a new JAmes Patterson . . . But this JP is a keeper. The last couple of his "series" books left me with a "he is writing to a deadline" feeling. This one does not. GREAT STORY, or stories . . . wonderful characters . . . and as good a narration job as will be done! SIMPLY GREAT!

Wow! I was riveted by this book from beginning to end. I'd sometimes sit in my car even after getting to work (or home), just to listen to more. Excellent. I do have to wonder though - so many Patterson books these days have co-authors. One has to wonder how much of each title is written by Patterson, or if his name is on the title just to sell more books. Regardless though - this title was awesome!

Book after book, Patterson manages to craft characters that I actually care about. This was a really intriguing story made much richer by including the lead character's real life. I can see this as a terrific movie. The two guys who read it were perfect...the readers can make or break a book and they read this one to perfection.

Very good book even with the sadness. Excellent narrators.

The book was good but I was not expecting such sadness with Bennet's homelife and would have preferred that part be left out. Also, Bennet and the police department were portrayed as being unable to handle the situation; to think ahead. Not one of Patterson's best.

This book has an excellent plot with some wonderfully drawn characters. This was a different character for Patterson and I hope he continues with it. The plot had a number of twists and, for the most part, I could accept it. Towards the end there was one small point that I wondered about--can't reveal it or it's a spoiler. What I most liked about this book was the production. There were two readers both of whom were excellent. The main reader had to do an Irish brogue which he did well. Highly recommended!
