Unabridged Audiobook
Most of the book is quoted from the great Stoic minds but I am unsure of what I expected. Even the "practices" are cut from the cloth but hinted with a personal flavor. Might quick read in a few weeks just to recap some ideas.
My feeling are that about everything I read in this book hits the nail on the head. I do not know if I will ever find a better book on this topic. I am almost finished with the first listening and I know I will relisten this book many times. It is just great.
The book was recommended by a colleague of mine that was somewhat surprised that I did not know about the Stoic philosophy since I had been writing about things that seemed very similar. There are a lot of parallels to Boodahism and the Voluntaryist lifestyle which I live (do no harm to others and don't steal). I would recommend this book to anyone, who like me, is a novice philosopher, and also to any experts that could also learn something new about the philosophy.
Such a well thought out and valuable book about applying Stoic principles to everyday life. Amazing the author is a 20 something. Wise well beyond his years.
Highly recommended book and a great look into the philosophy of Stoicism, which has helped me immensely in getting through some of the rough times in my life and also appreciating the great things which I have today. Stoicism teaches me not to focus on the things I cannot change and to accept the challenges in life, because most of the time these experiences make us stronger.
I’ve read many books on Stoicism. The works of Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus always provide the wonderful foundation that writes build upon - some better than others. I gave this book a try on audioable Version.
If you want a good introduction to Stoicism that is eminently affordable, surprisingly wide in scope, and that helps you understand well - this could be among the best that you can buy as a book for a beginner. Or even if your studies are at a more intermediate level, I believe you will find this very good
This little book was a blessing to me. I'm a 66 year old great grandmother. My job for the past 7 years is taking care of my 90 year old Dad. This book was, at times, so pertinent that it was amazing. I couldn't care less about the author's age or political bent. That didn't come through to me in the pages of his book. I will probably read it over again! To me it's that full of enlightening information that helps me stand back from each moment and grow and change. I want to be my best and this young man's book is another good place to go for encouragement!
This is one book everyone must own and read. That is, of course, if you value improving yourself, getting the most out of life, and enjoying peace of mind irrespective of what life throws at you
Incredibly, I learned a little about Stoicism from a newsletter on real estate. The author presented basic information and I decided to pursue the subject immediately after finishing the article. I went to Amazon and found this book. I have suffered from temper and impatience for much of my life. Even knowing the price paid, Istill persisted in the emotion. Reading this book made me see the futility of that state of mind and begin making inroads into controlling my temper and impatience.
