Summary
The Sword of Shannara is the first volume of the classic series that has become one of the most popular fantasy tales of all time.

Long ago, the wars of the ancient Evil ruined the world. In peaceful Shady Vale, half-elfin Shea Ohmsford knows little of such troubles. But the supposedly dead Warlock Lord is plotting to destroy everything in his wake. The sole weapon against this Power of Darkness is the Sword of Shannara, which can be used only by a true heir of Shannara. On Shea, last of the bloodline, rests the hope of all the races.

Thus begins the enthralling Shannara epic, a spellbinding tale of adventure, magic, and myth.

I enjoyed listening to the narrator read the store he did a very good job. The story however was for me a bit disappointing. Mr. Brooks spent entirely too much effort in over discussing almost every single point. The 26 plus hour book could have literally been cut down to 19-20 hours without missing one single point. As a result I found myself fast forwarding through a lot of the book which took away from the mood of the story. I alway felt like not this again! My other problem with the book is that it really followed JRRT Lord of the Rings a bit too closely for my liking. I was not happy about that because JRRT's LoR is a first class epic. This was not and it seemed to remind me of that constantly. Mr. Brooks is a great writer that I enjoy reading but with this particular book, I was disappointed.

It’s lord of the rings at a lower reading level.

the story is kinda mediocre and the narrator is just not good. he tries to do accents and tonal changes for the different characters it turns out really bad imo. but its a classic story so maybe you can get by that.

I couldn't finish the book. I don't know if it was the author or the story itself but I couldn't get into it. I've put it on my paper book list..

Excellent read. The narrator flowed easily between characters with perfect infliction of each voice. Highly recommend for long road trips, my 10 year old daughter loved it too.
