Summary
He was her target. She was his diversion. Falling in love was never something they wanted.

As a con woman who has spent her entire life fending for herself on the streets of London, Rose Wakefield knows how to scam a gentleman out of his money without ever getting caught. That's until she knocks on the wrong earl's door and is faced with Carver Ashburn Earl of Kensworth and not the notorious rake she thinks she is approaching.

Carver is a good man, but even a good man will not pass up an opportunity to escape his grief. What better way to avoid his feelings than to play into a con woman's ruse and offer to marry her?

Things only grow more complicated when Carver sweeps Rose off to his family estate and circumstances force them both into continuing the ruse. Carver needs to protect his family, and Rose needs to protect herself-and her heart.

With so much set against them, will Rose and Carver have a chance at love and freedom? Or is the possibility of more heartache not worth the risk?

A pleasant read, not very deep as a story and yet definittely held my interest. I really liked the author's writing style of including nicely placed descriptions, allegories of facial gestures and bodily movement and posturing without being repetitious. Her writing flows well. I very much like the humor which is woven through the story from narrator's/central character's eyes, ears and voice as well as situations. The writing is clean and neat. For those who dont go into graphic sexuality or foul language this is clean that way too. This would be fine as a gift read to a young adult, teenager even a preteen and yet at at 59 who is not against more racy or graphic books but not filtly. Randy healthy and descriptive sexuality is within my tastes. This is a solid story and a satisfying read. Again I liked the humor how deftly the author pays attention giving the reader a visual and tactile experiences as one reads. ways and means of generating as if watching a movie. Vocabulary is good and enriching to the plot. More often and histoically I tend to read literary works old and new, non fiction and fiction which is heaftier....and yet I do also enjoy light reading but not stupid stuff. This isnt stupid, again I think the quality of the writing, the skills of the writer, her cleaver story and very likeable, fairly interesting and varied characters is what has me writing the first book review that Ive taken the time and energy in a long time. The narration is well and expertly done, engaging.
