Unabridged Audiobook
The first part of this book was such a cute intro to Lachlan and Lyla’s love story. She was a bit withdrawn and standoffish, but Lach broke through her walls and their growing romance was so sweet to witness. Then part 2 comes around and it seems like all hell breaks loose. Emotions are high and the drama kicks up. I loved knowing they were able to find closure and heal. Joe Arden is an all time favorite! Him and Kasha Kensington did a wonderful job narrating this book! They were the perfect Lachlan and Lyla.
Great story. And Joe Arden. My favorite combo!
If I had to sum up Until I Get You in just one word, it would have to be intense because everything about this one has an intensity about it. From the tone to the characters to the storyline, it's intense. I would strongly suggest heeding the content warnings included in the book because things do get dark. There is a bit of suspense that follows the characters from the beginning, and it had me hooked and hanging on every word waiting for the reveal. Part of that includes a couple of scenes that were pretty hard to hear - I did listen to this one, and to be honest, I'm not really sure which format would've been harder to get through on those parts. I can usually imagine it so much darker than it comes across in audio, but Kasha Kensington pulls out all the stops. The emotion of those scenes comes through in her voice and tone, and she had my heart pounding. Even the romance has that intensity about it. Lachlan's feelings for Lyla are right there on the line of obsession, and I'd even go so far as to say he crossed that line a few times. At the same time, I couldn't stop rooting for this couple. Without giving too much away, I'll explain it by referencing the cover. That smoke you see on the cover is perfect for this relationship because where there's smoke, there's fire, and Lyla and Lachlan are hot enough to set the curtains on fire! Kasha Kensington is joined by Joe Arden, who wowed me as he always does. This was my first time listening to Kensington, and after hearing the whole thing, I can't imagine anyone else as Lyla. Of course, Joe Arden's sexy voice was perfect for Lachlan, and he perfectly captured that intensity I've been talking about. I'll stop there before I give away the book's secrets, and there are a fair few to discover. So, to sum it up, the combination of Claire Contreras's writing and Joe Arden and Kasha Kensington's narration is a thing of beauty. Somehow Contreras has escaped my notice until this book, but I plan to remedy that immediately. Until then, I highly recommend Until I Get You for readers of dark romance.
loved this story, hard to listen to in some areas, but overall a great read. Amazing narration. Definitely recommend
Until I Get You by Claire Contrares is about two college seniors, Lyla and Lachlan. Neither of them wanted any long term involvement with anyone, but are somehow unable to fight their attraction. Lyla insists that their relationship must be kept secret until graduation. Something terrible happens and Lyla makes a difficult decision in order to prevent it from happening again. Three years later, Lachlan makes his own difficult decisions, and the two are reunited. However, in order for them to be truly together, there are some issues that will need to be , and it will be dangerous to do so. Will they both make it out alive? This audiobook immediately sucks the listener in. Lyla obviously has someone harassing her, but the listener has no idea who or why. As Lachlan gets to know this intriguing woman, the only one he has ever needed to chase, it is apparent that a great deal of tragedy surrounds this young woman, but he has no idea what it is. The listener stays in the dark until Lachlan learns himself. The motivation to truly understand Lyla’s past kept me engaged and the chemistry and connections between these two was really intense. They were both a bit dramatic. Lachlan especially was a bit too intense/possessive, but it is hard not to love an alpha-male. I really admired Lyla’s strength to keep going and accomplish her goals. The narrators were really perfect for this novel. The use of distinct voices enhanced the listening experience. There are trigger warnings for off screen described sexual assault, stalking and attempted sexual assault. I would recommend this book to lovers of young adult hockey romance and love after trauma. I am voluntarily submitting this independent review after listening to an advanced complementary copy of this audiobook thanks to Valentine PR.
