Upgrade is a fast-paced story with lots of action and captivating prose that kept me thoroughly entertained. The narration was well done. My favorite parts involved Crouch's descriptions of how genetically enhanced intelligence felt and was manifested. I was surprised and a little disappointed by the frequent, detailed descriptions of numerous firearms, and the militaristic role of guns in the book's events. I thought the book would have been better if increased intelligence was not accompanied by shooting people. Still, it was a very entertaining listen. The book's theme of genetic modification to improve humanity is timely and thought-provoking. Also, Crouch's descriptions of the biological principles underlying genetic modification seemed mostly accurate (I am a retired virologist) and informative.
What an amazing book, what lengths would you go if genetic and gene mutations was within your reach and the world possibly depended on you ?
I couldn’t put this book down for one minute read/listened to it all within one sitting. I was left on the edge of my seat hundreds of times wondering “what if”.
